Div 8 FL: Moynalvey remain rooted to the bottom of the table

Moynalvey's Ray Ryan

Moynalvey lost out to Bective by four points in round six of the K. McKeown Carpentry and Home Improvements Div. 8 league at Bective on Sunday morning 1st June.

Bective 1-12
Moynalvey 1-8

A tricky wind ensued for a game of two halves literally, with both sides making use of it when they had the wind advantage at their backs. It was the home side who did the most damage with it in the first half as they clocked up a commanding eleven point half time lead.

Bective were quickest off the mark with three points on the score board by the time Ray Ryan opened Moynalvey’s account in the fifth minute.

By the time the same player score Moynalvey’s second point the home side had added a further five points, one of those being the only two pointer of the game, leaving it 0-8 to 0-2 with eighteen minutes played.

Moynalvey would fail to register again in the opening half with Bective adding a further 1-2 to lead 1-10 to 0-2 when referee Pat Clarke blew his half time whistle.

Similar to the first half, it was the side with the wind at their back, Moynalvey, who did the most scoring in the second half, but Bective had done enough damage in the first half to secure the win and two points on offer.

The first score of the second half came in the seventh minute when Luke O’Halloran fielded the kickout and ran forward to split the Bective uprights for Moynalvey’s third score. Bective replied three minutes later when Moynalvey’s Barry O’Keeffe who had reverted into the goals for the second half palmed a drive at goal over the crossbar to leave it 1-11 to 0-3 ten minutes into the half.

The visitors then reeled off five points without reply, four of those from the boot of Ray Ryan and the fifth a second of the game for Luke O’Halloran, making it 1-11 to 0-8 with 53 minutes played.

Bective’s second score of the half came on the sixty minute mark, with the final score of the game being a Moynalvey goal when a speculative point attempt from Conor Byrne deceived the Bective ‘keeper to loop in over his head for a consolation goal for the visitors, meaning Bective were deserved four point winners on a 1-12 to 1-8 score line when the final whistle blew.

The Result sees Moynalvey rooted to the bottom of the Div. 8 table, while the two points gained for Bective sees them move nearer the midpoint of the table.
