Roscommon had a late goal disallowed as Mayo were crowned Connacht U20 football champions for the first time since 2018 with a 2-17 to 4-8 victory in a thrilling final at Tuam Stadium last evening.

Rúairí Kilcline palmed to the net in a frenetic finish, only for it to be ruled out for a 'square ball' infringement as Mayo prevailed by three to progress to an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Louth. The winners looked to be cruising when they opened up a 1-7 to 0-1 lead with Seamus Howard grabbing the game's first goal in the eighth minute.

Rory Carthy then brought the Rossies back into it with a two-pointer and a goal before John McGuinness raised their second green flag. There was a further exchange of goals between Darragh Beirne and McGuinness as Mayo took a slender 2-9 to 3-4 lead into the break.

Mayo had pushed out their lead to three before Rob Henehan restored parity with Roscommon's fourth major in the 51st minute.

Mayo responded with points from Colm McHale, Dara Neary and Darragh Beirne before Conor Grogan reduced the deficit to two in the 60th minute. The Rossies then had what appeared to be the winning goal controversially disallowed before a late Tom Lydon point sealed victory for the new champions.
