Ballygunner are Waterford senior hurling champions for a twelfth successive year after demolishing Mount Sion.

With the most emphatic final victory since their domination of Waterford hurling commenced in 2014, the Gunners inflicted a damaging 2-35 to 1-16 defeat on their city rivals in the 2025 decider at Walsh Park this afternoon.

Jason Ryan’s men are now unbeaten in an incredible 66 championship outings in Waterford and, on the evidence of today’s showing, there’s no telling how long their complete stranglehold on hurling in the county might continue for.

Pauric Mahony clipped over eleven points for the victors, Dessie Hutchinson fired 1-6 from play and Patrick Fitzgerald (1-3) was the other goalscorer on a historic day where the champions had ten different scorers.

Hutchinson’s goal arrived inside the opening minute, after Fitzgerald’s initial effort had been saved by Ian O’Regan, and not even the brilliance of Austin Gleeson – who floated over sublime sideline cuts from either wing – could stop the rampant holders as Fitzgerald’s major on 22 minutes made it 2-11 to 0-4.

Chalking up 2-19 in the first half, Ballygunner won pulling away and next on their to-do list will be an eighth Munster club crown.
