Davy Burke expects the new football rules to breathe new life into the game after they contributed to a high-scoring Allianz League shootout between Roscommon and Down last weekend.

The Rossies ran out five-point winners in a game that yielded a whopping 53 points in total.

"It's frantic and it's absolutely chaotic, but I'd be very positive about the new rules and the new game,” the Roscommon manager told RTÉ.

"I think we're en route to a brilliant product. I think there's a few things I’d probably tweak, but I'd be very, very optimistic."

He added: "We got a big two points. We go to Ardee next week and it doesn’t get any easier."
