'Galway would be a nice fit for him'

Pat Spillane believes Kieran Donaghy could be the answer to Galway’s attacking problems.

The four-time Kerry All-Ireland SFC winner stepped down as a forwards’ coach / selector with Armagh in July, having played a key role in their surprise Sam Maguire Cup triumph last year. And his fellow county man feels that Padraic Joyce – whose Galway reign was this week extended to the end of 2028 – should try to recruit him.

“Despite the fact that they have class forwards, their Achilles’ heel has probably been their attacking play. They could really do with a top-class attacking coach,” Spillane said of Galway on the Indo GAA Podcast.

“There’s a fella [Donaghy] down in Kerry. He appeared before with the Galway hurling team as part of their backroom a few years ago, Galway would be a nice fit for him.

“I know from the Armagh players, Kieran has a sharp football brain, very sharp on attacking play but where Kieran is absolutely brilliant, he’s a players’ man.”
