Two GAA clubs in Westmeath are in mourning following the sudden death of one of their most dedicated and respected members.
Ringtown – which is the club of the Lake County’s only hurling All-Star David Kilcoyne – and neighbouring football club Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall have paid heartfelt tributes to Paul Hardman, who passed away on Sunday. The young father-of-two was a brother of former county hurler, Johnny Hardman.
“To say that our little community is heartbroken this morning is an understatement,” the Ringtown tribute began.
“The devastating news broke last night of the sudden passing of our dear club member, loyal supporter, and cherished friend, Paul Hardman.
“Paul was a lifelong member of our club and a constant presence at matches, always there to support all our Hurling and Camogie teams, especially when his daughters Amy and Jade or his brother Johnny were playing. His love for the game and our club was unwavering.
“Paul was always willing to lend a hand—whether working on committees, helping with events, or simply carrying the hurls for the Senior team. He just loved being involved and was happiest when he was part of the club’s day-to-day life.
“If you bumped into Paul in Ringtown, he’d always stop for a chat—analysing the last match, discussing team performances, and eagerly listening to your take on the game. His passion, warmth, and presence made him a true pillar of our community.
“Paul will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will never be forgotten. As a mark of respect, all club activities are postponed.
“To his wife Sinead, daughters Amy and Jade, mother Margaret, sisters Sinead and Claire, brother Johnny, and all his extended family and friends—please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”
Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall said: "It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the sudden passing of our LGFA chairman, underage coach, loyal supporter and dedicated CFCW member, Paul Hardman.
"Paul was with us only yesterday, cheering on our teams as he always did, showing the passion and commitment that made him such a cherished part of our club.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sinéad, daughters Amy and Jade, his mother, siblings, extended family, and wide circle of friends at this heartbreaking time.
"As a mark of respect, all club activities in CFCW and St Michael’s are postponed until further notice.
"May Paul’s gentle soul rest in peace.
"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
