U16 Division 1 Camogie Championship - Round 4

Lough Lene Gaels Camogie Club played their third Divisional fixture in the U16 Division 1 Camogie Championship on Monday evening July 14th.

That fixture was a Round 4 fixture, Lough Lene Gaels v Brownstown and Decotek Park Collinstown was the match venue. Lough Lene Gaels were aware that the Archerstown Blues in previous Divisional phase fixtures in this competition were very competitive in defeats to Castletown Geoghegan and Clonkill, notching 3.10 and 4.04 respectively. Therefore, Lough Lene Gaels could not afford to be complacent whatsoever. Lough Lene Gaels started this Round 4 fixture positively by scoring 2.02 within the opening eight minutes of play, Brownstown coming more into contention as the midway point of the first half approached. Lough Lene Gaels obtained important scores in the second quarter of play, the Purple and Golds going on to be in possession of the match lead at half time.

Brownstown made a positive start to the second half, scoring a superb point from a long range placed ball, a score that inspired the Archerstown Blues, who had Lough Lene Gaels very much on the backfoot for much of the third quarter of this fixture. Jenny O'Neill, who had taken up goalkeeping duties for the second half of this U16 D1 Camogie Championship Round 4 contest, was called up to make four timely clearances in a phase of play dominated by Brownstown. The Lough Lene Gaels defence remained composed under pressure, the Purple and Golds then subsequently striking for two goals in quick succession with Lough Lene Gaels goalkeeper Arwen Briody, now playing in an attacking role, scoring one of those goals with a searing drive. Thwarting successfully the numerous superb attacking movements of Brownstown in the closing quarter of play, Lough Lene Gaels fired over a number of points to bring match scoring to a conclusion, and with it a positive result for the Purple and Golds.
