Scór na nÓg Final Report.

Ballycomoyle was very well represented at the Westmeath Scór na nÓg final, which was held on Sunday afternoon last, November 10th, in The Downs GAA Centre. While we came away with no county titles this year, each of our competitors gave their performances their very best.

The Tráth na gCeisteanna competition was held, before the stage competitions kicked off. We were very well represented in this competition with 2 teams – Will Keogh, Luke Moynagh and Billy & Danny Ginnell and Tom Keogh, Jack Tyrell, Charlie Crone and Emmet Devine. While neither team finished in the top 3 they can be very proud of their performances. The Downs went on to win the quiz and we wish them the very best of luck in the Leinster Final at the end of this month.

First to participate, for Ballycomoyle, in the stage competitions, was Cliodhna Fitzpatrick, in the Recitation competition. She recited ‘The Guilty Child’ brilliantly but the winner of this competition was Alanna Corroon, from The Downs.

Our ballad group of Cliodhna Fitzpatrick, Skye McCormack, Arwen Briody, Ava Williams and Niamh Louise Ledwith Byrne gave a lovely performance of their two songs, which they can be proud of. The winners in this competition came from Moate All Whites.

Both our groups in the Novelty Act competition qualified for the final and gave fantastic performances of their acts last Sunday. The Ballycomoyle GAA representatives were Tom Keogh, Jack and Kate Tyrell, Holly McCormack, Beibhínn Fagan, Annie Farrelly, Angie Murtagh and Callie Cheevers, with their act entitled “Waxed Out”. Ballycomoyle Ladies were represented by Clodagh Gallagher, Cliodhna Fitzpatrick, Caragh Masterson, Skye McCormack, Arwen Briody, Ava Williams and Niamh Louise Ledwith Byrne, who performed their act, “Westmeath’s Got Talent”. The Novelty Act winners, on the day, came from The Downs.

The final competition of the evening was the Set Dancing and we were represented on the night by Clodagh Gallagher, Cliodhna Fitzpatrick, Caragh Masterson, Niamh Louise Ledwith Byrne, Caitlin Masterson, Ellie Murtagh, Mikaela Morgan and Teegan Rooney. The girls danced exceptionally well and when the results were announced it was the team from The Downs who got the nod from the adjudicators and progressed to the Leinster semi-final. The winners of the ‘Sarah Bardon award’ were the team from St. Joseph’s.

Congratulations to all the young people who represented our club so well last Sunday. While we took home no county titles, we are very proud of all the performances of our young competitors – all of whom have a number of years at Scór na nÓg level. We wish all the Westmeath competitors the very best of luck as they head into the Leinster rounds of this year’s competitions.

Junior men.

Our Junior B team travelled to Shandonagh on Friday evening last 15/11/24 to take on the home side in junior B Competition quarter final.

On a miserable evening for football both team played out a very enjoyable game of football Shandonagh started the brighter putting over the first 3 pts before the Ballycomoyle lads registered their first score after 9 minutes.

As the half went on Shandonagh were more accurate and went in at half time leading.

Half time score

Shandonagh 0-11

Ballycomoyle 0- 03.

Into the second half and it was the Ballycomoyle lads that fired over the first 2 pts of the second half.

The Ballycomoyle lads were now on top playing great football and had now Shandonagh down to 3pts but unfortunately Shandonagh struck for goal but our lads never give up getting the next 2 pts but it was Shandonagh that score the last point of the game on the final whistle.

Final Score.

Ballycomoyle 1-10

Shandonagh 1-15.

It was brilliant to see 20 Ballycomoyle lads togged out.

Well done to team and our management team.
