Slevins Coaches SHAC Final

Lough Lene Gaels...........2.17 (23)

Castletown Geoghegan..1.27 (30)

Lough Lene Gaels contested the rescheduled final of the Westmeath Slevins Coaches SHAC final, Lough Lene Gaels v Castletown Geoghegan at Mullingar's TEG Cusack Park on Saturday November 2nd.

A concession of a third minute goal to CTG, was not an ideal start for LLG.

With 19 minutes of play elapsed, Aaron Kennedy scored a goal for LLG, leaving the match scoreline level at 1.05 to 1.05.

For the first half match action that thereafter remained, CTG outscored LLG 0.06 to 0.04. The half time match scoreline was, Lough Lene Gaels 1.09 Castletown Geoghegan 1.11.

Lough Lene Gaels were outscored 0.03 to 0.01 by CTG in the opening five minutes of second half play, falling further in arrears on a 1.14 to 1.10 scoreline as a consequence. David Williams (free) then pointed for LLG, keeping his team in contention. A further exchange of points followed thereafter, two per team! The match scoreline midway through the second half was, Lough Lene Gaels 1.14 Castletown Geoghegan 1.19, Lough Lene Gaels were now trailing by a margin of five points, and CTG were on course to win a 15th Westmeath SHAC/SHC title!

Early in the closing quarter of play CTG moved 1.21 to 1.14 ahead, LLG in turn responding, hitting over two points in quick succession. The teams then each swapped further points, leaving the match scoreline at 1.22 to 1.17 with six minutes of normal playing time remaining.

Lough Lene Gaels substitute Jason Malone then subsequently scored his team's second goal, in the last minute of normal playing time.

Alas for Lough Lene Gaels though, it was a very impressive CTG team that thereafter hit over three unanswered points, winning this SHAC final by a margin of seven points.

For the second year in succession, Lough Lene Gaels have scored an impressive total of 2.17 in a Slevins Coaches Westmeath SHAC final, and have ended on the wrong side of the match result.

Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club extends its sincere gratitude and thanks to its Senior 2024 magnificent panel of players and team management for their positive attitude to both the playing of, and preparing for, the playing of matches in the 2024 Slevins Coaches SHAC competition.
