Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

November 03, 2024

Players of the Year

Well done to James Fox and Padraig Carton on being named our Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year respectively.

James led by example at full back as we marked our return to the IFC ranks with wins over Ballynacargy and Maryland as well as a draw with Ballymore. Padraig also played a key role after being involved with the Westmeath U20 squad – and playing in the O’Byrne Cup against Longford – in the early part of the season.

In addition, a special presentation was made to Colin Draper on reaching 100 first team championship appearances in the aforementioned drawn game against Ballymore. He becomes our latest centurion after Shaun Pidgeon (154), Alan Fennell (142) and Mel Kiernan (118), who were recognised at our dinner dance last spring.

U14 Shield final

Our U14 boys take on neighbours Lilliput Gaels in their Shield final under lights in Ballinagore this Thursday, November 7 at 7pm.

All support for the lads would be greatly appreciated.

JFC ‘B’ v St Malachy’s

Our final group match against St Malachy’s in the JFC ‘B’ is scheduled for this Sunday, November 10 at MJS Builds St James’ Park.

Throw-in is 11am. A win will qualify us for the semi-finals.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 6, 20, 21 and 26. There was no jackpot or Match 3 winner; the Lucky Dip winner was Louise and Marg (Londis).

This week’s jackpot is €11,650. You can take part in our lotto online or at Centra, Mace and Whelan’s. Seoidin Rochford is also selling tickets outside Centra or at matches in MJS St James' Park some weekends.

Senior hurling champions

Congratulations to our very own David Fennell (player) and Damian McLoughlin (selector), and all the Castletown-Geoghegan lads on their fantastic victory over Lough Lene Gaels in last Saturday’s refixed Westmeath SHC final. Best of luck also in this weekend’s Leinster Club SHC quarter-final against surprise Kilkenny champions Thomastown.
