Limerick made history yesterday when they became the first county to complete a six-in-a-row of Munster SHC titles.

The Treaty County’s hugely impressive 1-26 to 1-20 over Clare at a packed FBD Semple Stadium leaves them just two steps away from an unprecedented five-in-a-row of All-Irelands and few would bet against them achieving that feat. However, captain Declan Hannon’s revelation in his speech after collecting the Mick Mackey Cup that there are 53 people in the Limerick backroom team has once again raised concerns about the road the GAA is headed.

It seems fair to say that at elite level, the game is already professional in everything but name.
