Meath Clubs In Leinster

(Oldest Posts First)

All championships done and dusted meaning that the respective winners have Leinster campaigns to look forward to now.
Dunshaughlin up against St. Loman's of Westmeath in Navan on Sunday week. Loman's have a lot of experience in Leinster (they've won in Westmeath in 3 of the last 4 years and 8 of the last 12) and will be massive favourites. Dunshaughlin will also obviously be celebrating the county championship and may not be placing much importance on Leinster. But if they were to win, it would likely open up an easier path on paper with the Wexford champions in the quarter final.

Ratoath will be away to Bray Emmets of Wicklow in the Leinster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship on November 16th, so a long time to prepare. Bray beat Trim in the Leinster final a few years back. Opposite side of the draw to the Kilkenny champions but would face the Dublin or Wexford Intermediate Champions if we get through.

Meath Hill will be away to Caragh of Kildare who won the Kildare Intermediate championship yesterday. That'll be on Saturday week so not much time to celebrate. Get past that and it's (on paper) an easier quarter final, away to the Kilkenny SFC champions Dicksboro.

NOM will make the trip to Wicklow to face Avondale in the Leinster Junior Club Hurling Championship on November 9th. They'd be home to Mountmellick of Laois if they overcome the first round tie. They'd likely face the Kilkenny Junior champions in the semi finals if they got that far.

And Dunsany will make their first foray into Leinster competition in their history, facing Aughrim of Wicklow in the quarter final, likely in Navan, on November 9th. A Laois/Dublin/Kilkenny/European opponent would follow in the semi final if they win that one.

the Meath senior football champions seem to have the same faith in Leinster as the Irish rubby team. Quarter final exit every time!

Meath Hill fall at the first hurdle against what seems to be a strong Caragh side. Best of luck to Dunshaughlin tomorrow.

Here we go. Luckily for Robbie Brennan he has more clubs than Dunshaughlin to pick from. Of the Dunshaughlin team today, Matthew Costello is the only one who is a guaranteed starter in the Meath team. Gray and Kinsella are outside the starting the 15 in my opinion and no other Dunshaughlin player is up to county standard. That performance and defeat was coming for Dunshaughlin. They were blessed against Dunboyne and again against Wolfe Tones.

Yes, Meath club football has a lot of improving to do across the board at all levels. The standard of skill and in particular Strength and Conditioning levels are way off other counties in Leinster, namely Dublin, Kildare, Louth and now Westmeath. Dunshaughlin looked like a poor intermediate team compared to St Lomans.

Well done to Dunsany winning their first ever provincial game. They'll be up against Kilcavan of Laois for a place in the Leinster final.
Commiserations to NOM and Dee Rangers.
