Navan O’Mahony’s 3-17 Killyon 6-09
They say goals win matches, and this was the case for Killyon in Kilskyre on Friday evening in the second round of the JHC, with the narrowest of margins between the sides at the full time whistle.
O’Mahony’s got off to a quick start, with Fionn Breathnach, Conor O’Dwyer and Donal Rice getting early points. Killyon got their first score, a goal, in the sixth minute to draw level before O’Dwyer edged O’Mahony’s ahead again.
Further scores, including a goal from Andrew Snow and six points from Paddy Skehan kept O’Mahony’s ahead but Killyon managed to cling on through goals, the second of which came in the twentieth minute.
O’Mahony’s had a seven point advantage approaching half time when Killyon added a goal and a point in the closing minutes, to go in at the break:

Killyon got the second half started with a quick point before Rían Porter and Skehan added further points. As in the first half, goals kept Killyon in it and the first of the half came in the ninth minute.
Skehan added another point midway through the half but Killyon also kept the scoreboard ticking over with some scores from frees and play.
There was a dramatic conclusion to the game with the lead swapping hands. O’Mahony’s finished with fourteen men when Skehan got shown the line and Porter added two late goals, with Killyon also scoring a goal in the dying minutes.
In defence, Peter McLoughlin, Aaron Gavin and Killian Clarke Doggett impressed for the Brews Hill side, while Colm O’Toole and Tom Cully performed well i lár na páirce.
When O’Dwyer looked to equalise in injury time, it looked set to be a draw but a late Killyon free sealed a narrow victory for them.
