Drumree 0-19 St Pats 3-8
Drumree made the trip to Stamullen on Thursday evening and returned home with the points after a fiercely contested encounter, edging past St Pats on a final scoreline of 0-19 to 3-8.
The game started at a lively pace, with Drumree settling well and keeping the scoreboard ticking through the accuracy of John Crimmins (0-6, 5 frees and 1 from play) and sharp shooting from Caoimhin King (0-5) and Rob Holohan (0-3). At the break, the visitors held a narrow lead of 0-10 to 1-5, thanks to disciplined defending from the backs and relentless work across the pitch.
The second half had everything — goals for St Pats kept the home side in touch, but Drumree’s composure shone through. Both Johnny Gilsenan and Ronan Gilsenan chipped in with points in the second period — Johnny making a surprising foray from full back all the way to the full forward line to split the posts, and Ronan landing a superb long-range effort that drew cheers from the Drumree sideline.
Jeff Wall, playing his first game back since injury, was a welcome sight in the red and white. There was never any doubt he’d make his mark, and sure enough, he slotted over Drumree’s final score of the game in the 58th minute to help see it out.
A special moment on the night belonged to Jimmy Mi, who pulled on the Drumree jersey for his very first championship game. Jimmy threw himself into the action with real energy and determination, showing exactly why he’s such an exciting addition to the squad.
When the final whistle blew, Drumree’s two-point cushion was hard-earned and richly deserved — built on teamwork, work-rate, and an ability to take scores when they mattered most.
It would be wrong to let this report pass without a hearty nod to the Gilsenan clan. On the pitch, Johnny Junior, Ciaran, and Ronan continue to give their all in Red and White — whether it’s Johnny making daring runs from full back, Ronan clipping points from distance, or Ciaran slotting in wherever needed. And off the pitch, Johnny Senior, keeps all the lads well hydrated for the post-match debrief — a tradition as much a part of Drumree hurling as the game itself. It’s this blend of commitment, community, and craic that keeps the parish spirit alive and ensures Drumree can proudly field three adult hurling teams.
