Carnaross 1-18 Nobber 2-10
Carnaross picked up their second victory in a week in the Division 4 league this morning against Nobber. It was the second meeting of these two sides this year with Nobber winning the first encounter in the cup back in February.
The game began slowly with both sides spurning scoring opportunities. Nobber eventually registered the first two scores of the game. Pierce Fleming then ghosted in behind the Nobber defence, gathered possession and rounded the keeper to blast the ball into the net. An early 30th birthday present for the industrious Fleming. Charlie Murphy continued his rich vain of scoring bagging two great points from play, either side of a well taken score by Dillon Fox. Carnaross were dominating the middle third with Luke Gillic lording the skies and Oisín Yore powering forward at will but the scoring efficiency was holding back the home side. 11 first half shots were missed by the Ross, due in part to a crosswind but more in truth, to poor decision making. On the stroke of half time, Nobber worked the ball through the hands to raise the green flag giving them a 1-6 to 1-3 half time lead.
The second half was chalk and cheese to the first for the Hoops. They troubled the scoreboard right from the off, with Fox adding a point from play. The full back line snuffed out numerous Nobber attacks time and time again, with Tomas Plunkett excelling. Cormac Yore stormed forward to level proceedings with a monster two pointer. Paddy McDermott began to break free from the clutches of Niall Farrell and registered two scores in quick succession, including another two pointer. The pace of Darragh O’Reilly allowed him to fist a point with Nobber struggling to contain the Carnaross onslaught. They needed a lifeline and were handed one when referee Kieran Olwill awarded Nobber a penalty. Lorcan McEntee drove the ball low and hard into the corner but Shane McNiffe denied him expertly. Carnaross pushed for home after this turning point, stretching the lead to 8 with scores coming from Fox, McDermott and the Yore brothers. The pick of the bunch was a sublime 2 pointer from Oisín Yore. Nobber struggled to gain a foothold around the middle with Fleming, Shane Yore and Kerins mopping up breaks. Nobber didn't give up and added 3 frees but the Carnaross rearguard held firm with Roche and Farnan reading the play well. Paddy Morris picked off a quickfire brace as the clock ticked down. Charlie Murphy concluded the home side's scoring before Nobber's Paul Meade broke through to raise a green flag on the stroke of full time.
Carnaross' performance improved drastically in the second half where Nobber struggled to match their intensity. An encouraging performance amd result for the Ross who travel to neighbours Drumbaragh in 2 weeks time.
