Roscommon hit Down for three goals to get their 2025 Allianz Football League Division 2 campaign off to a winning start at King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park, where it finished 3-21 to 1-20.

Enda Smith, Cian McKeon and Ciarain Murtagh bagged the goals for the Rossies who trailed by 1-14 to 2-6 at the half, with Pat Havern bagging the Mourne men’s goals.

However, the hosts came good after the change of ends and saw Murtagh’s sublime goal in the 58th minute pushing them on towards an opening league victory.

In Mullingar, an injury-time goal from Sean Reynolds proved the difference as Louth held off a Westmeath for a 1-17 to 0-18 victory.

Ger Brennan’s men had made a strong start to run up a 0-9 to 0-4 lead after the opening 25 minutes, but the home side would send over the next four points unanswered to trail by just one at the interval.

Westmeath would hit the front early in the restart but Louth got it level and nudged ahead again, with the scoreboard reading 0-16 apiece when Reynolds landed the decisive blow in the dying stages.
