Mullinalaghta win appeal, but Longford SFC row rumbles on

Mullinalaghta's Patrick Fox celebrates

The Longford SFC quarter-finals are unlikely to take place as planned next weekend after Mullinalaghta successfully objected to the result of their controversial Group B final round clash with Carrickedmond.

St Columba's were awarded the win after the sides finished level on 2-12 apiece. The former Leinster kingpins successfully argued that Carrickedmond were mistakenly awarded a point in the first half when their case was heard by Longford CCC last Friday night and therefore topped the group, meaning they will play Granard instead of Colmcille in the quarter-finals.

A counter appeal was also heard from Carrickedmond who, at this moment in time, are out of the Connolly Cup race and replaced by Dromard, who now play champions Killoe in the last-eight after initially being knocked out on scoring difference.

But it’s almost certain that Carrickedmond will take their case further, especially as they are now due to meet Longford Slashers in a relegation playoff.

The revised Longford SFC quarter-finals are as follows:

Saturday, September 14

Glennon Brothers Pearse Park: Killoe Emmet Og v Dromard, 4.45pm

Glennon Brothers Pearse Park: Clonguish v Colmcille, 6.15pm

Sunday, September 15

Glennon Brothers Pearse Park: Mullinalaghta St. Columba’s v St. Mary’s Granard, 3.30pm

Glennon Brothers Pearse Park: Rathcline v Abbeylara 5.15pm
