Jimmy Meagher has stepped down as Ballyhale Shamrocks manager after just one season.
His decision comes after the nine-time All-Ireland champions suffered a shock Kilkenny SHC quarter-final defeat to neighbours Thomastown on the weekend before last. Thomastown were seven points up before Colin Fennelly brought Shamrocks back into it with a goal on his return from an ACL injury.
But last season's All-Ireland intermediate winners weathered the storm to prevail by 0-21 to 1-16 and prompt the departure of the former Ballyhale All-Ireland winning coach who succeeded Pat Hoban as manager following last year’s county final loss to O’Loughlin Gaels.
There is already speculation that club and county legend and former Offaly manager Michael Fennelly – who works as a Performance Lead with Kilkenny GAA – could take over.
