This year’s Galway SFC and SHC finals will be played at Tuam Stadium and Kenny Park, Athenry respectively.
The showpiece games have been played at Pearse Stadium in recent years, but the Salthill venue is unavailable due to works taking place to install floodlights. The new lights are expected to be in place to host Allianz League games next spring after the long-awaited project was awarded €350,000 in sports capital funding last week.
The Galway SHC quarter-finals take place this weekend, while the county SFC semi-finals are scheduled for the following weekend. Tuam Stadium, which is the spiritual home of Galway football, has undergone extensive redevelopment works recently and now boasts the brand-new Joe O’Toole Stand which replaced the old ‘hayshed’ stand that stood for 65 years.
Similarly, Kenny Park is considered by many to be the traditional home of Galway hurling.
