Plans to erect floodlights at Pearse Stadium have received a huge boost with the awarding of €350,000 in sports capital funding.
The news has been warmly welcomed by Fine Gael Councillor and former Galway footballer Eddie Hoare who expects the floodlights to be in place in time to host Allianz League games next spring. Pearse Stadium was among hundreds of clubs and facilities across the country who shared in €230 million in sports capital grants announced by the Government yesterday.
“Together with funds from Galway City Council, Croke Park and Galway GAA’s own funds the project will now be completed and league games should be hosted in Spring ’25,” Hoare predicted.
Temporary flood lighting was installed at the Salthill venue in 2006 for the International Rules clash between Ireland and Australia.
