New Cavan Manager

(Oldest Posts First)

if its going to be a Cavan man the most suitable choice would have to be Finbarr 0 Reilly given his record with Arva and his involvement in under age coaching in Cavan for past two decades . It will be interesting if there is a move made to block him like what happened with the new position at under age coaching manager a few months ago when the powers that be wanted their own man in and the whole idea fell apart even though the position was been funded by an outside sponser.

Of the home grown managers, he's certainly the most able, in my opinion anyway. Not sure if the county board will go for him though, the manner of his departure from Arva been less than ideal. I think McCabe and Vinny Corey are in the conversation somewhere, whether they are ideal candidates, or are interested, I can't say for sure.

As long as its not one of the buddy boys in the circle. Cavan going nowhere with the underage management choices over the last few years.

Paul Fitzpatrick's column on Galligan's departure trotted out a few expected Cavan names for the job-Finbar O'Reilly, Jason O'Reilly and Dermot McCabe.

Only Finbar is worth a shot from those I think. Did great things with Arva. Jason was on the shortlist last time, along with Galligan and Micheal McDermott. While he's a legend in the county I don't think he'd be who we're looking for. As for another legend in McCabe, seems to have taken Westmeath backwards. Straight down to division 3 in the league, won three games overall in the Tailteann, but put out by Wicklow. Other than that, from inside the county the current underage managers are not the right men for sure!

Doubt it's a super attractive job for an outside man and there's a lot of counties looking as well. Hard to know who we could get. Rochford's in with Tullamore. Tally is gone from Derry but was abject there. Andy McEntee? Would be hard to swallow having a Meath man for a manager, same with a Farneyman like Corey.

Big pressure to get the right man, but as usual we'll probably get the wrong one!

the great alex ferguson cited loyalty and maturity as key qualities in a top premiership player. you can make of that one what you will.

Finbarr reilly done well with arva at intermediate and junior level but with kingscourt and mulinaghta in longford leinster champions very poor record.

God you're all so bitter and catty. Better off commenting or Her.ie or wherever

Whoever gets the role deserves our full support regardless of petty anonymous gripes or whatever gossip you're peddling

Still think it's a pretty attractive job. Lots of good footballers in the county. Hopefully Finbar gets it

The perfect Cavan appointment-already employed by the county board so just need to pay him once hey!

All joking aside, over on the Westmeath thread more people are expressing disappointment rather than delight if he does leave them for us. So hopefully that's a decent omen and good luck to him supping from his native poisoned chalice if he does get the gig.

Be a tough one that. He has his hours to fill as GDM so if he says his hours at manager take up his weekly GDM hours then who will actually do the games development.. messy!
