I think our starting point is a bit higher than the Bonner era in fairness. There's a much better cohort of young talent than there was then.

I'm hopeful I'll never see us that bad again.

I hope so but I worry for next year especially if Rory O Connor is not around ive heard conflicting reports .

On reflection I think week off for Electric Picnic should be kept going forward presuming the Fleadh is not back in Wexford for a while one weekend off is no harm for young lads can go enjoy themselves while older players into their 30s will be happy to rest their bodies for one weekend!

Not sure what everyone else's experience is but from going to games and talking to people from clubs up and down the county I don't think I've ever seen as many players getting as many serious injuries as I have this year.

I can't think of any particular reason it should be any worse this year compared to others but on the face of it, it definitely seems to be.

I suppose one of the advantages of the old set-up before the split season was brought in was that there were generally two hurling matches and two football matches in April, meant that there were four fewer games to play when the Championship resumed in July

Would guess that gave players a chance to recuperate but also meant they weren't playing as many games in a row

I don't think so, the April club month has been gone for a while so not sure it has relevance now.

I was talking to an S and C trainer yesterday and mentioned it to him. He's not involved with any club this year but mentioned that from talking to others whilst in recent years the focus was always to get to peak for start to mid July it has now switched to reaching for mid to end of August because of the championship structures in place.

He ventured that it could be a case of a lot of clubs doing a lot of the "hard yards" at a time when they're playing games and that causing issues. Might be something to it but not sure really, could be just a once off.

I see a fairly spectacular scoreline from an Enniscorthy District Junior 'B' hurling match yesterday:
Oulart-The Ballagh 7-40, Davidstown-Courtnacuddy 1-2.

Don't think I've ever heard of 40 points being scored in a 60-minute match before!

And looking back through the competition details on the Wexford GAA website, I see several other hammerings there so far this year too, such as:
Rathnure 6-16, Davidstown-Courtnacuddy 0-8
Bunclody 3-23, Shamrocks 1-4
Rathnure 9-18, Shamrocks 0-3
Rathnure 12-14, Monageer-Boolavogue 4-6
Duffry Rovers 9-29, Monageer-Boolavogue 0-8
Oulart-The Ballagh 6-24, Shamrocks 0-9
Rathnure 5-18, Bunclody 0-10

Buffers Alley have brought a proposal this past of couple of years for a new Junior 'C' competition to be started, for what are currently the weaker Junior 'B' teams. It was defeated both times, but maybe there's some merit to the idea when you look at results like these?

Had saw those results and had actually though the same. There already is two groups in Wexford junior b hurling, group a where three teams qualify, and a group b weaker teams with only one team qualifying. I definitely think it should be looked at, too large a gap.

Some serious lickings in those games there. It does nothing to help either team. The gaps are huge.

What about a special junior where u18s in last year minor could play in it . U21s not playing adult teams and junior b standard or lower players any age . Exclude u20 county players . if you play up any higher level u are then excluded . Inc any u21 that plays junior or above. Or any player that played a level higher than ur lowest ranked team in previous year .
Yiu can enter junior b and special junior . Played at times that don't interfere with minor championship.
Play it after league finishes before championship starts. And maybe instead of u21 mid week or weekends

There were other problems with the idea. It would spell the end of the Districts and Junior B.
