Replying To Viking66: "Darragh has a good bit of bite to him, great workrate, good striker and freetaker. Yes all the u8s had a great time, on both sides. That's what it's all about at that age! We played 3 games u8 and u7, 6 total, around 15/20 minutes each, and the u8 games were the lowest scoring games our lads have been involved in all year, which says alot about the workrate of all the chaps. There were only poles, so just scores, no points/goals seperate. 1st game there was only 1 score was scored by one of your lads. 2nd game there were no scores at all! Third we scored 2 to your 1 so I guess it was pretty even, which is what you would want at that age. The lads would of played on all morning, but one of your u10 lads came along and took all the poles away while the lads were still playing, and put a goal out on the pitch for u10 training instead! That wasn't you by any chance?!" Thats townies for you.

Following on from a CCC Meeting on Wednesday night it was decided that the weekend of Electric Picnic will be a free weekend bar Rd 5 of Intermediate A Football, which will be scheduled on the Thursday night, this is to allow time for the club who wins the Intermediate A Football Final compete in the Club Leinster Junior Football Championship." Does this mean hurling and football will be on different weekends now towards AUGUST/SEPTEMBER . Only play hurling myself . Had booked a weekend away for a wedding on 23rd August which was down as a football weekend is this still a football weekend?

Now their dates completely thrown off.

Good call re Electric Picnic, if lads can't have 1 weekend off in the summer to go off to a music festival its a bad setup. The problem with this championship format is the matches played at the weekend county for nothing in the grand scheme of things. There has to be some consequences for a team going out and being bet by 20 points. Clubs are waiting all year for these games and now manager and players can shrug their shoulders and say it doesn't matter?

I presume there's no games on the last weekend of the Fleadh then as well in either code?

Not sure why this didn't post earlier. Glynn has two teams this year in U21 hurling and football, A & B. Surely this has to be a first. They must have some numbers.

Will take a stab at this weekends games
St Annes V Ferns Annes are one of my favourite clubs in Wexford. They just get on with their business at both underage and adult and seem to bring through one or two lads every year to their adult teams. Having their two retired inter county stalwarts fresh is a big bonus. Ferns on the other hand still have a good mix of youth and experience. On paper they are a decent outfit and potentially a last 4 outfit this year. Paul Morris went off with a hamstring last weekend and is a big loss. Therefore giving win to Annes by few points
Oylegate V Crossabeg Possibly a defining game for either clubs season and important for either to get a win. Both were poor in the first round. Difficult to turn around in a week though Crossabeg are due to have few more players back. On paper Oylegate have the better panel of players and I do expect them to eventually overpower Crossabeg and take the win by few points.
Rathnure V Gorey This is an interesting tie - maybe early days for Gorey so possibly not at their best. Looked impressive in their Round 1 game and have very few (if any) weak links through out the lines. Rathnure have been building their team over the last 18 months and are getting about their business without too much fuss. On their day they have some of the most dangerous forwards in the game and I do think the wide open space in Wexford Park suits them. However Gorey's forwards are no slouches either and I do think this game might be a little too much for a young Rathnure team that is without the injured Shane Lawlor and possibly Eamonn Wickham. I'm going with Gorey by 3
St Martins V Rapps Even without Rory and Jack O' Connor I don't see this proving too much of a problem to a St Martins victory. Rapps had a good ACHL victory earlier in June but only for a few late scores they were poor against the Shels in Round 1. The Martins have the players to nullify their scoring threats. Martins by >5
Glynn V Shels Glynn are a strange bunch - two U21 teams out tonight and a host of premier minor titles over the past number of years but still cannot get it together at Adult level. In reality haven't competed for Senior honours since the early 00's and have just been floating around for last number of years. Should have been relegated in '23 except for a Rathnure self destruction. Shels, though not spectacular, have a good mixture of youth and experience. Conor Hearne has become a powerhouse at midfield and a true leader with Simon Donohoe controlling things at the back. Both had good wins last weekend but I expect Shels to see out this one by a few points
Harriers V Oulart Possibly the game of the weekend as both will be fighting for survival after two Rounds. Chin returns for Harriers and naturally will bring a huge lift. Oulart will be seething after coughing up a win in Round 1. I haven't seen Oulart play this year. Have seen the best and worse sides of Harriers but I do think with Chin back and the forwards that Harriers have, they will overpower Oulart. I am going to go with a Harriers win by a few points

As stated always go about their business and just keep ticking over nicely.
Oylegate v Crossabeg Oylegate on paper have plenty of players with county experience so should always be there or there abouts. They were poor last weekend but between themselves and Crossabeg, I think they can improve the most. The gaters by 5
Rathnure v Naomh Eanna Rathnure seem to be on a good vain of form but Naomh Eanna I think have too much firepower for the young Rathnure team.
Glynn v Shels As stated about above for the amount of players and underage title Glynn have they should be doing better. Shels still missing players, I actually think Glynn should win this one.
Harriers v Oulart With Chin back, and with Oulart losing last week by just a point, I don't think Oulart would have anyone to handle Chin to be honest.
Martins v Rapps Fairly straight forward win for Martins.
Intermediate
Blackwater v Tara rocks/Kilanerin Suspect the Rocks/Kilanerin side should win. They put up an impressive score last week while Blackwater still missing players.
Cloughbawn v Liam Mellows Cloughbawn were brilliant last week so suspect that to continue. Mellows did well to get a draw last week but think there will be a difference in class.
James v Fethard Jimmies should have some players back. Hard one to call. Think I would go with last years finalists James.
Horeswood v Gusserane. Big one for both clubs as the loser I think will finish bottom. Think Gusserane while poor last week should have the experience.
Craanford v Alley Craanford although they lost last week were leading until the 60th minute. Alley impressive. I think there might be an upset in this game. I'm going to say Craanford.
Askamore v Bunclody. Battle of neighbouring clubs. Hard one to call but think I'd have to go for Askamore.

Blackwater are better than Craanford though. If Mossey is fit to start I think Blackwater might shade it. Cloughbawn will be too good for Castletown, who I expect to improve as the year goes on. Fethard always start seasons slow the last few years, and the Barrons should be back for the Jimmy's. I'll go Jimmy's as well. Gusserane like Castletown will improve at the hurling as the season goes on. Alot will depend on how many of their 8 missing starters Horeswood have back. If they have most of them back I think they will win, if not they won't. I didn't think the Alley looked that good tbh, jury is still out on them for me, this will be a close game, maybe even a draw. Askamore should beat Bunclody, but there will be very little in it. Will come down to who performs on the day.

Five walkovers in Divison 2 of the u21 hurling championship out of 10 scheduled games this evening. So half of the games in this grade were walkovers. Ridiculous.

I hope all Clubs that conceded walkovers are fined because it makes a mockery of the competition now. As a result of conceding they are also thrown out of the 'back door' system so it also makes a mess of that side of it too. Like what were Glynn thinking - put in two teams and then not fulfil the fixture.
Oulart and Rathnure seem very strong and Harriers had a big comeback against Martins.

I think the problem is young lads say yes and last minute either don't turn up or pull out last minute I ve been involved and when yiu put out the message yiu could get up to 25 saying yes and when the time actually comes they just drop out, injured , work , or senior/ inter manager wont release them it happens clubs are trying their best to keeping lads involved but yiu are relyjng on lads that are not that committed if not playing adult. And then yiu go looking for minors to play up . But you cant make them play . Adult team managers pulling adult teams players out does nt help either and is becoming more prevalent from what I hear . Holidays too come into it . Every team wants to field but circumstances possibly try can t dictate fines are nt the answer . No club will enter knowing tgey have to pull out On the glynn thing fair play for trying but id imagine a culmination of above reasons is why they could nt field. Too many numbers are nt allways the answer they gave huge catchment area and population boom on outskirts of town . They cover prob 30% of wexford town as well as there own 2 parishes . Bigger pick than any team inthe county i d imagine bar ballinstraw gaels . On ballinstraw gaels is u21 not adult should they not be called tara rocks . Or is the wording to allow minors to play grey area i d imagine

I am going to go with a Harriers win by a few points" Has Rory left for Australia already?" St Anne's v Ferns-St Anne's will beat ferns by 5-6 I reckon paul morris is a massive loss for ferns!!!
Oylegate v Crossabeg-I think this will be close but il give it to oylgate by 2-3 point but wouldn't be surprised at all if they got turned over by crossabeg
Rathnure v Gorey-i think rathnure will win there fair share of games in this championship and they will give Gorey plenty of it,rathnure have good forwards that can put up good scores but there defence is very poor and I think gorey Will wear them down and have too much fire power,Gorey by 6-7
St Martin's v Rapps- I think the rapps are a team under serious pressure this year,St martins had a handy day out v harriers last week, prob looked better than they are!!! I think Rory is here for this game and heading away then,I think Martin's will win handy any it could be any amount!!!
Barntown v Shels- I think oulart should have won the game last week v barntown,I don't think barntown will trouble anyone else really I think they will struggle for the remainder of the year,il go with the shels by 6-7
Faythe Harriers v Oulart- I don't think it was a true reflection of what the Faythe Harriers are last week, the should have beat Martin's last year really, they were missing chin who's worth 10 or more scores between play and frees,he keeps the forwards goin with Kehoe keeping the goin from the back!!! I think we will see a different Harriers team this week and they beat oulart by 6-7!!! I really think Harriers will be there abouts this year when they get lawlor back too!!! I think oulart are a team under pressure this year too, might struggle to get a win in the group!!!should have beat a bad barntown team last week and couldnt

How do you draw up that conclusion? Conceded 1-12 against Crossabeg, with only 1-7 coming from play

Replying To Formertownie: "I think the problem is young lads say yes and last minute either don't turn up or pull out last minute I ve been involved and when yiu put out the message yiu could get up to 25 saying yes and when the time actually comes they just drop out, injured , work , or senior/ inter manager wont release them it happens clubs are trying their best to keeping lads involved but yiu are relyjng on lads that are not that committed if not playing adult. Or is the wording to allow minors to play grey area i d imagine" U21 is adult
