Tullamore For Kerry/Meath. Ridiculous.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kerry fans are outraged at again having to travel much further than their opponents.
Tralee to Tullamore is 213km.
Navan to Tullamore is 84km.

raised an eyebrow at that too in fairness, some trek from south kerry. dont think kerry will travel in numbers anyway. however it really is swings and roundabouts with this sort of thing, like in 1999 in league quater final Meath had to play Kerry in Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for some reason, Meath winning 0-14 to 0-10 for the record. the famous league semi final the next year was played in thurles, wasnt it something like 4-11 to 1-19? some players on show that day, a lot of pundits would say it was the greatest league match ever.

Bad neutral venue choice. Roscommon v Cork should be in Ennis. Kerry v Meath preferably in Thurles, otherwise Portlaoise.

Strange alright.
Thurles would be approximately half way for both counties.

The hardest part of Kerry's freewheel to the quarter final is return spin to Tullamore. They'll cope.

You can't always have a venue right in middle for both teams. Venue availability or any other reasons could stop a specific ground being available on specific date.

Donegal having to go to Roscommon on Mayo's doorstep is even worse.

God there is literally nothing the GAA can do without cranks having a whinge about how every decision is inconvenient for them personally. I'd refix the game for Portaferry or somewhere out of spite. Let them eat cake or whatever

They know few will travel from Kerry no matter where but lots from Meath will go if it's not too far.

Gunman - I am not disagreeing with you, we found ourselves in same position in the past. However there didn't seem to be many options. Jim McGuinness seemed to be against Croke Park, Sligo is closed, Leitrim to small, Cavan and Tyrone playing at the same time so that ruled them out.

And I forgot: Tullamore is not - at least non easily - reached by train from Kerry. Unlike Thurles or Portlaoise.
So the many seniors, and others, who nowadays travel by train to matches are also inconvenienced.

Why are they poor choices? At least give a reason why you think they're poor decisions

Portlaoise was the suitabie neutral choice of venue for our game.

Not a Connacht or Munster venue. Páirc Uí Chaoimh to O'Moore park is a 1 hour 45 minute drive and from Hyde Park it's 1 hour 30 minutes.

Oh no the privilege of the train is not convenient enough for you in very specific circumtances, such a shame. How do you all manage to get out of bed in the morning faced with such hardships
