Are scoring records in football now effectively defunct due to the introduction of the two pointer?

Why? Do records not count from eras when different ways of scoring were allowed? Goals were worth 1 point, then 5, then 3. We used to have an outside pair of posts like AFL has, you used to be able to scored fisted goals up until 2014. There have been many changes, and no doubt will be many more.

The one big change needed… Get RID of the 2pt scores… it does nothing for our game.. only adding confusion especially in club games and goalkeepers trying to get a touch to turn it into a one point score is just laughable…

Absolutely.I mean I expect the top scorer in an All Ireland final to be broken if not this year then very soon.For now both Jimmy Keaveney and Mikey Sheehy have the record joint at 2-6 each. I anm not a fan of the two pointers either and despise them totally from frees and 50 meyre penalty lark.

The goal has changed value in GAA over the years - but this is a good point.

On an aside, I think with the 2pointer effectivley lessening the impact of a goal, the goal now must go to a 4-pointer.

Neither were a patch on Frank Stockwell's 2-5 from play in a 60 minute final in 1956. The change to 70 mintues had a smiliar effect on individual scoring tallies and it wasn't the end of the world. whatever about the new rules they can be analysed and will be tweaked but if they improve the games it shouldn't make a blind bit of difference that it will result in records being broken.

ON the 50m penalty and 2 pointers my opinion on it is that it's intentionally over the top punishment for something that it should be very esy for players to tidy up

In fairness the scoring system of 3 points for a goal and 1 point for a point had been in place for about a century.

This is a big change.

It was reported over the wknd that Luke Loughlin scored 1-17 against Antrim. But he didn't score 18 times. I think it was 1-5-7. Which is still phenomenal scoring obviously but there is a difference.

Scoring records will have to reflect the new system. If the 2 pointer stays, or the goal gets pushed out to four for example. There should be a clean break in records keeping.

Ah yes a scoring record has to be relative to the system in use and playing rules of that time.

Let the current bunch have a new record this year.
However, when comparing it to old records, you can just change it back to the old scoring system.

Alternatively, we can change the All Ireland championship to the World wide Premiership and pretend that football started this year. It works well for the premier league.

Scoring records in both codes should probably be broken up.

Since the qualifiers came in teams sre playing far more games meaning the scoring is much higher.
