Do that counties in the Tailteann have more interest if they get 1 or 2 neighbours in the pot, even if from another province; e.g Sligo V Fermanagh, Lietrim v Longford, Offaly v Tipp, Wexford v Waterford? tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1349 - 29/04/2025 09:41:04 2605251 Link 0 |

Looking forward to it starting now. Hopefully the counties involved haven't lost too many players to America. Of the 4th seeds London definitely got the worst draw. Of the 3rd seeds Leitrim look like they are in the toughest group.

Saturday 10 May Tailteann Cup Round 1 Wexford v Longford, Chadwicks Wexford Park, 6.30pm Kildare v Leitrim, Cedral St Conleth's Park, 5pm Laois v Waterford, Laois Hire O'Moore Park, 3pm Offaly v Wicklow, Glenisk O'Connor Park, 1.30pm Limerick v London, Rathkeale, 1pm Sunday 11 May Tailteann Cup Round 1 Westmeath v Antrim, TEG Cusack Park, 2pm - GAA+ Fermanagh v Carlow, Brewster Park, 2pm Sligo v Tipperary, Tubbercurry, 1.30pm The hot favourites have home advantage. In my opinion that doesn't help to level the playing field. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3168 - 03/05/2025 12:39:07 2606410 Link 0 |
No but that is solely dependent on league position. I suppose there has to be some reward for finishing higher up the league. The third seeds will have home advantage though against the second seeds and that will help to level things. Carlow will have a decent chance at home to Wexford and I'd say Antrim will be favorites at home to Limerick. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1139 - 03/05/2025 16:15:24 2606448 Link 0 |
Yeah agree. The Tailteann cup could be a great competition if taken seriously. Getting straight into the All Ireland series next year is an excellent incentive and even getting a chance to play in Croke Park means alot to the Division 3 and 4 teams.

In the first round, Seed 1 is home v Seed 3, and Seed 2 is home v Seed 4. So yes, the supposed "stronger" team on paper has home advantage. The second round will be Seed 3 home v Seed 2, and Seed 4 v Seed 1. So the supposed "weaker" team will be at home in all games. Round 3 will be Seed 1 v Seed 2, and Seed 3 v Seed 4, all at neutral venues. No home advantage for anybody. So, it's all designed to "level the playing field" insofar as possible over the group stage as a whole. No need to go jumping to conclusions and conspiracy theories suggesting it's designed to help the "stronger" teams in it when you could have looked up the details just as easily as I did.
