Is This County Power Thing , Newbridge , Or Corrigan Or Nowhere A Dangerous Road For The GAA

(Oldest Posts First)

Tomsmith here from Cavan

I just sat back for a while and watched the play that is being made by players flexing ones muscles and now Counties doing likewise.
Is it a dangerous road that we are going down when Counties can dictate to the elected provincial Officers what ones County would like fixture to be played in .
It dosent sit well with me

Spot on Tom.

Just because a county has home advantage doesn't mean they should get to pick a ground in their county to play a game in.

Preference for venues should be given to the teams with biggest number of fans.

Happens in other sports all the time without issue...

Kildare and now Antrim weren't dictating to elected GAA officials. They were following the rules, in Kildare's case the 2018 Qualifers and in Antrim's case the 2025 Ulster championship.

The rules as mandated by the GAA are that the first team out of the bowl gets home advantage.
Why does that not sit well with you? If it happened to Cavan, would you not think that they had the right to home advantage.

I agree.

Antrim had no right to play their home game at home.
Shame on them !!

I fully agree with you that the Antrim situation did not sit well with alot of Armagh supporters who wanted to see Armagh playing the first game since that historic All Ireland win
If that game was played in sat Healy Park or Clones you would have a full house .
I think the Gaa in future has to look at fixtures and suitable accommodation for all supporters has to be considered.
I suppose Cavan people are lucky that we have Breffni KIngspan Park and should we win an All Ireland and our first fixture theirafter in at home ourselves, and Monaghan ( very unlikely to win anything in the near future) are the only two Counties that have grounds with 25000 plus capacity to host a big game

Hi Yomsmith.

Sweetspot here from Kildare, Ballymore to be precise if you know it, lovely town.
Excellent sugarposting. May I suggest the reason Monaghan are very unlikely to win something soon is because they're operating in division 1, at stark contrast to yourselves? I'll also suggest should 25,000 Cavan people pay the price for a Gaelic football ticket, the world may just explode before you win the game.

I'd also not be worrying about how the Cavan people might react to winning the All-Ireland anytime soon.
Best wishes,

Sweetspot

Antrim were 100% right to take a stand. However the powers that be could easily have called their bluff and their season would have been over. The GAA is a grass roots organisation so the small man can have a big say and long may that continue.

Tom it might be time for some WD40 on that space bar the spacing looks like it might be sticking a bit.

This situation in relation to Corrigan Park should never have arisen as the people in the Ulster Council ( all Voluntary I believe) should have had arrangements made with Antrim that if the got a home game that it would be played in a suitable venue
It wasn't when Antrim came out of the Hat and it was discovered that a demolition crew had already started in Casement park that this should have arisen..
But I feel that ====== or nowhere is a very dangerous route we are going down

Tam, you're talking nonsense. I thought you would stick to your word and retire. And Monaghan have 100 times better chance of winning anything than Caaavan.
