Seeing as this is the most lightly lensteir final to have a draw in recent times what happens if there's a draw?

Leinster council should be happy. Be a far bigger crowd at this final compared to if it was a Dublin Louth one. How times have changed

Paddy Power must be glad to see you, Dickie.

A Meath player will throw the ball into the back of the net to stop a draw.

That would be true, both sides have a great chance here, the people of the two counties should empty out on the day, and fill Croker. Try get some bite, and pride back into the Leinster championship. It needs a new face.

Extra time and penalties.

Brilliant Leinster final pairing for the neutral.

Speaking to a Louth septuagenarian today, he was adamant that all the despair since 1957, and most of it at the hands of Meath, will have been worth it if Louth get over the line on Sunday week.

He meant it too. No pressure, men of Louth

Can anyone explain why Kildare were awarded a SECOND 45-metre kick after the hooter? The hooter had already sounded long before the ball was kicked over the line for the the FIRST 45, so surely that first 45 should have been the final play of the game. Why did the game not automatically end when the ball went out of play after the first 45 was taken?

Replays should be reintroduced, it was the one thing that give that added buzz to the championship imo.

badly wrong i was but so happy! leinster final is 50-50. a lot of pressure on louth though compared to meath, will louth come back from 3 final defeats in a row? venue is huge , some difference in Inniskeen and croke park that might shade it

Same reason as we were awarded the first one, a 45 is considered part of an attack. Everyone on the pitch knew it except the Louth man who kicked it out.

I'd go so far as saying it's been the best provincial championship this year by a distance. Wonder what odds you'd have got on that at the start of the year

I sincerely hope the Leinster council are taking notes on the difference playing semis outside of Croker does for fairness of competition, atmosphere, regional town economies and overall matchday experience. Long may they last. Well done to Louth and Meath although the idea of it not being Kildare dethroning the Dubs makes me physically sick.

Louth wouldn't have wanted (or needed) a draw the last time if Meath hadn't got away with cheating in the last final between the two.

Cannot get my head around this either as with many around me in the ground, nobody seems to know except for the FRC themselves.

The rules don't interpret between kicking it out of play cynically to stop a clear scoring opportunity, making a save and pushing it around the post or winning the ball and deciding to kick it out.

Therefore, as the ball crossed the endline off a defending player, it was a 45 and not the end of the attack.

Under the current rules, the defending team cannot end the game by conceding a 45.

Because if the ball goes out for a 45 after the hooter has sounded, you're allowed to take a 45. It doesn't matter if there's been one or two or even twenty 45s already taken after the hooter.

Similar with a free. Let's say Kildare had only been a point down and were awarded a free-in from 60 metres after the hooter sounded. They'd be allowed to take it.

Now let's say a Kildare man collects it 20 metres from goal, and he's immediately wrestled to the ground. That's the end of that passage of play. But it wouldn't be the end of the match, as they'd be allowed to take that free too, pop it over the bar, and send things to extra time. Otherwise the Louth player who committed the foul would be rewarded for fouling, and Kildare would be out of the championship in hugely unfair and controversial circumstances.
