ANTRIM NOT BACKING DOWN

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Comhartas to Antrim and their stance on this. Common sense prevailed with the final decision.

I just hope the powers that be can finally see movement on the Casement project. It's a national scandal the way this has been left to rot.

Yes indeed, a good outcome following a brave stance. It also highlights the lack of progress on Casement development. Have they decided yet on will the development be a county ground (15,000 - 20,000) or a provincial venue (40,000) ? What do informed posters here think ?

They decided this about 12 years ago buddy.
Its a 40,000 provincial stadium. First there were planning issues, then it got green light, then it was offered as a Euros venue but unionist politics got in the way which ended that.. now the costs outweigh the funding available and the powers that be sit on their hands and point at others. the entire mess is a disgrace and underlines the total failure that the north is.

It was "down sized" to 34,000 capacity.
There's only enough funding for pitch, 1 stand and terracing.
The Brits won't be giving it money seeing as they're cutting expenditure all over the place.
Stop blathering and build whatever can for the money available before boloky in the White zHouse crashes the World economy.

Also my view that they should scale back on overly-ambitious plans, and proceed to build what's viable with the money available.

Some facts, which some people may not like pointed out:
- Stormont has already pledged far more to Casement Park than it did to either Windsor Park or Ravenill.
- The Irish Government has pledged a further €50 million. This source of funding wasn't even available to those other two projects.
- The central GAA funding also remains available.
- Total funding available is in the order of €120 million.

Should be more than enough there to build a comfortable and modern stadium with capacity of approx. 18,000 (roughly equal to what WIndsor Park and Ravenhill both hold).

Hanging on in desperate hope for massive money from Westminster will more than likely continue to prove to be a futile exercise.
