Just after watching the IFC Final , Crossmolina awarded a penalty when he charged with the ball - should have been a free out cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1686 - 26/01/2025 15:04:29 2587687 Link 0 |
If that's a penalty, they can come up with all the new rules they want, the game is gone. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1090 - 26/01/2025 15:54:52 2587695 Link 0 |
Congratulations Crossmolina on a fantastic win today. After what the players, management, supporters and friends have been through in the last couple of weeks it is a great achievement. Delighted to see an All Ireland crossing the Shannon. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 651 - 26/01/2025 15:59:38 2587697 Link 0 |
Desperate decision. A horrible way to lose and win for that matter not that they'll care. SimonstownBack (Meath) - Posts: 162 - 26/01/2025 17:01:21 2587715 Link 0 |
No. Terrible decision. Happy Crossmolina won but should have been a free out.

Ballinderry should have just kicked the ball up the field or even out over the sideline. The worst that would have happened is Crossmolina get an equaliser if the referee didn't blow the whistle. PattyONeill (Derry) - Posts: 253 - 26/01/2025 22:42:54 2587802 Link 1 |
The bigger problem was the referee did blow the whistle for something he didn't see at all…..

Funny to see Ulster posters crying over this. Had it been the other way around they would be very quick to accuse others of being sore losers. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1498 - 27/01/2025 11:33:28 2587854 Link 0 |
To be fair, given how outrageous the decision was I think most teams would be up in arms regardless of their performance. If roles were flipped I'm sure there would be an online petition doing the rounds in Mayo today. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1090 - 27/01/2025 12:16:57 2587865 Link 2 |
Apologies that should read PROVINCE not PERFORMANCE.

Keeper wraps two arms around him and pulls him down. Its a Penalty and should have been a black which would have put keeper off anyway. Not sure how there is so many crying about it. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1193 - 27/01/2025 12:55:45 2587881 Link 0 |
A bit like Louth/ Meath in the 2010 Leinster final !

I wonder did the great Jarlath compliment the referee and his team of officials on doing a great job..???? ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3346 - 27/01/2025 13:10:26 2587888 Link 0 |
I could not disagree with you more. It could not have been a clearer example of a player in possession charging with the ball. The referee is standing at the apex of the D, maybe unsighted. Surely should have consulted with his umpires who had a perfect view. A huge decision which he got totally wrong. That Crossmolina won the title with tragedy in the background is of course fitting in a way and everyone empathises with them but no peno! sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 830 - 27/01/2025 13:43:09 2587905 Link 0 |
I agree with you PattyONeill. We can deliberate all day long whether it was a penalty or not and bemoan bad referees calls etc. but Crossmolina should never have been in a position to get a point, never mind a goal. I don't know the name of the Ballinderry player who kicked that last free backwords but he is going to have some regret over that decision. That's why Ballinderrry are not club champs today And no amount of blaming the ref is going to change that. Cbar (Mayo) - Posts: 333 - 27/01/2025 15:05:31 2587943 Link 0 |
Certainly Ballinderry should have played the ball forward and if they did they "probably" would be champions today. However if the referee had gotten the call right and correctly given a free out then Ballinderry would definitely be champions today. Just because Ballinderry lost the ball through their own fault does not mean the Crossmolina player can charge straight into the goalie and not be penalised. Surely the ref should have consulted with his umpires. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 830 - 27/01/2025 15:48:47 2587963 Link 0 |
The quick thinking for the kick pass along the ground from No. 20 to No. 12 was brilliant. Both men kept their heads and did the right thing at the right time.

After all the chat I watched back the last passage of play and tbh it was a bit of mess to the end of the game. Ballinderry no 5 must have 7/8 steps taken with the ball before he fell to ground so should have been a free in and would have been extra time. Also I thought physios and players had to be off the pitch for treatment? These two had a factor in whether there'd even be a penalty situation. Agree to disagree, Blatant pull down by the keeper. Stone waller. And i would have no time for Mayo teams.

I think the response has been very measured to be fair and most of the criticism has come from non Ulster posters. In light of the sad and tragic events most people I know we're happy to see Crossmolina get the victory even though the ending was controversial. I though the Ballinderry manager was very gracious and respectful in his comments Please do not try to create division where none exists,, there is more to life than football. tireoghainabu (Tyrone) - Posts: 353 - 27/01/2025 16:10:59 2587973 Link 0 |
