Don't think so. TG4 are broadcasting at least 3, maybe a few more, Div 2 games across the entire league so hopefully that includes at least one Meath match. And BBC are streaming the Down-Meath match. With all the shadowboxing in Div 1 it's a pity more Div 2 matches aren't broadcast, RTE are exclusively showing Div 1 matches.

I'd imagine that's the height of it, not intercounty standard imo. Would like to be proved wrong obviously

Have to agree I'm afraid. He was brilliant in the 1/4 final V Ratoath last year but anonymous in the semi final and then final. He needs to make his bad games be a 7 or 8 of of ten instead of the 5's. Consistency is key

Looking forward to this, missed the O'Byrne cup tbh. Like the look of the team Lavin, Flynn and Kinlough great additions. Sigerson lads seem to be going well too. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1808 - 25/01/2025 12:19:31 2587445 Link 0 |
Disappointed to lose that one, good to see a decent Meath crowd in Cork too. hyperache (Meath) - Posts: 258 - 25/01/2025 19:14:32 2587496 Link 1 |
A lot for Robbie to work on. Cavan next is almost a must win game. Thought Menton was our best player, that in itself is probably a big issue with this meath team, the best players are still Menton and Keoghan.

Hard to know with that game. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 771 - 25/01/2025 21:07:20 2587509 Link 1 |
Just watched armagh v galway game same aul crap over and back football what u need is 13 players a side to leave more room for game to breath Centralmeath (Meath) - Posts: 4 - 25/01/2025 21:59:09 2587528 Link 0 |
If teams want to play over and back and keep the ball then 13 a side isn't going to stop them. Yeah there's more space. But there's also more room for the defending team to try and cover. The no pass to the keeper rule in your half was brilliant. Several times for both teams it allowed teams press high and the other team really had to work to get past halfway. Think allowing the keeper get it after halfway then allows for team to play keep ball. But given Meath Cork was the first competitive game I thought it was generally a lot better than the past few years

Some of it was awful especially from Galway. Not sure about the touch and go thing. It's basically a rugby move. Number 5 from Galway was doing it all the time, head down and into the next pile of bodies. The forwards also doing it when a free kick at the goals a better option. There is less kicking than before. Wind plays a big role with 2 pointer option. Against a strong wind, its impossible. Good to see Meath scoring heavily again with Costello proving again to be an excellent player. Frayne and Walsh will improve. Midfield way better than last year. Fullbackline were under huge pressure. One on one defending will have to improve and hopefully in time it will. Looks like we have a much stronger squad than last year which bodes well. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 26/01/2025 08:51:52 2587571 Link 0 |
Weird game in some respects. Cork looked better, but yet we could have won with the amount of chances. Disgraceful amount of wides and shots dropped short. 20 in total according to RTE match report. Morris was guilty of a few bad ones. Selwyn (Meath) - Posts: 391 - 26/01/2025 09:44:42 2587588 Link 0 |
Decent first effort I would say. The better team won but I'm not overly despondent about the result either. Felt the crowd were so focused on the new rules it made for a flat atmosphere. You could almost sense the collective concentration! I think the punishment for not having 3 players in a team's half is extreme, particularly when it can happen so innocently. Having a ball-playing goalkeeper will be a massive advantage; Hogan did quite well to be fair to him. Thought the solo and go was brilliant; I found that I couldn't take my eyes off the game for fear I'd miss something. I felt the team all rowed in behind each other which was great to see. We mustn't forget the low base we're coming from. Yes, we seemed to be quite exposed at the back by times but hopefully this can be ironed out. I think it's a solid performance to build on. A repeat display should win us enough games in the division to finish mid-table. MarkMyWords (Meath) - Posts: 517 - 26/01/2025 10:21:52 2587596 Link 0 |
I d try and take the positives. I thought Menton was immense, the half back line looked busy. Jones made a huge impact when he came in. Walsh and Eoin Frayne have loads of room to improve. Costelloe also was very good. I think we missed o Halloran in the fb line, I know he hsd Sigerson during the week so I understand him not starting. All in all a decent run out. hootervillian (Meath) - Posts: 309 - 26/01/2025 11:01:00 2587601 Link 0 |
Great to see the amount of opportunities created last night, next week we need to see a return. I thought Billy Hogan was great. Supporting play and getting a score and could have had more. Overall happy we are playing a fast game of football and with big men across the field we just need to tidy the shooting.

Looking at the other results coming in for Division 2, scores are up on the whole which was part of the rule changes. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 771 - 26/01/2025 15:48:33 2587694 Link 1 |
Sounded like a decent game with some good play, our conversion rate came back to haunt us, plenty of chances to get something from the game but I'm positive about the style of play I hear was used and even despite our missed chances we kicked 21 points, next two games v Cavan and Down are important and points must be gathered, I'd be reasonably confident of results in both games. bookies rarely get it wrong meath at 5/2 yesterday for a reason id say we might be very slight favourites next sunday, its a pure 50:50 in my opinion, if we lose i think we will probabaly be relegated unless we improve a lot in last 2 or 3 matches in March. very hard to be condifent that we will win any of our 7 games if we lose on sunday , you would begin to think. westmeath dont look as bad as imagined they would be and Down looked good today too. id be shocked to see us win in newry maybe mullingar, that means it near enough win or bust on sunday already, we will not beat monaghon or roscommon in navan dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 800 - 26/01/2025 21:32:40 2587786 Link 3 |
Why can't we beat Monaghan and Roscommon in Navan.
