A blind man could see what I talking about. Again, you display your complete lack of understanding about the business of sport. GAA+ had to be introduced to protect the GAA 'product'... I don't know how it is so hard for you to understand that no one was interested in broadcasting additional games... when Sky pulled out Virgin Media were approached. After months of discussions, they didn't even make a bid. The bottom line is that any decision, by the GAA, on whether games stay on free to air TV or not is based on revenue. There's NO guarantee that RTE will continue to pay at the levels they have been and the GAA doesn't have to accept any deal that they're not happy with. At any point the GAA could decide to move all games to a pay per view model (unlikely but they could) however the main reason GAA+ exists is so that the GAA can use it as a bargaining chip when negotiating future media deals. Here to fore, their bargaining power was limited enough. At the end of the day, the GAA is doing all this to protect their ability to re-invest in the game, a blind man can see that. We can't all be visionaries like yourself alas when it comes to GAA matters. You neglect to mention however that TG4 bid for a championship package and weren't successful They were interested in broadcasting additional games so I don't know how hard it is for you to understand that there were interested parties and the gaa said no, we'll continue to paywall. The business of sport has shown that when cricket and rugby went behind paywalls in England, interest and indeed participation in those sports fell off. But sure you know better. boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 416 - 26/06/2025 16:22:01 2621303 Link 0 |
The GAA has the right to control their product and get the best price for it. TG4 obviously didn't bid enough so the games went to GAA+. How hard is that for you to understand? Whether I know better or not is irrelevant but don't come here with a half *****, uniformed opinion and expect people to play nodding dogs with you.

"...when cricket and rugby went behind paywalls in England, interest and indeed participation in those sports fell off." Unlike cricket and rugby in England, there are plenty of top class football and hurling matches broadcast for free in Ireland. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2855 - 26/06/2025 17:15:21 2621319 Link 0 |
You said there were no bids, now you're saying a non existent bid didn't bid enough. Which is it? I don't expect any nodding dogs, not here for that. But you are I think, which is fine, fair play to you boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 416 - 26/06/2025 19:08:22 2621346 Link 0 |
What kind of money did tg4 offer? Interesting they had the lions game in Dublin and urc next season so money can't be that low. Urc brings in 70m for the owners whereas in England it's 45m. What do the GAA want on average per game I wonder? Rte paid 50k to show selbournes European game. Galicia TV had rights to all Ireland finals I wonder what was the money involved? Even 7 in Australia had rights to show GAA games in the past but gaago killed it. How much money did the GAA lose by not showing Kerry v Meath ? I would love to watch that game this week to Judge Galway against meath or Kerry against Armagh.

Oh my, well my apologies for forgetting about TG4. Happy? Back to the reality of the suitation, which doesn't change no matter what way you try to spin it. GAA+ is here to stay, it's a decent product for the price & amount of games available on it. Less than €2eur a game if you buy an annual subscription. The GAA are well within their rights to get the best price for their product, that is unless you believe in magic money trees or the like.

I never said they weren't entitled to have gaapaywall. You're spinning there. I am not sure what you are on about magic money trees but have at it.

Well what's your issue so? The games aren't on TV for free? Boo hoo, that's tough. The GAA is a business and are entitled to maximise their income in whatever way they see fit.

That's because they don't have very many… Everyone nowadays has a Firestick so no need to subscribe to the Grab All…..

So no issue with GAA+ at all? That's odd because quite clearly you do.

Yawn... it's alright, the GAA aren't targeting anyone in Cavan as ye pay for nothing anyhow.

The most important games i.e. the All Ireland series games should not be behind this paywall. However until the govt steps in that's how it will be. I won't be buying it but anyone who does fair play to them, hope they are enjoying the poor production boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 416 - 27/06/2025 13:16:08 2621502 Link 0 |
Oh so you can watch them for free? Get it. The entitlement is unreal.
