Cavan Seniors 2025

(Oldest Posts First)

So with the new year not long away and uiet enough here, suppose it's time to open a new thread for the Senior team?

Fixtures are out for the League. Personally I will miss the McKenna Cup as was nice to blow off the post Christmas cobwebs with seeing new talent, but but sure end of January for League to aim for. And with 4 home games and not a huge amount of travel for the 3 away games, it is a decent layout ahead for us. Staying up is a minimum, and well up the table too to continue to develop in Sam.

The better news is the return of McKiernan which the Celt just announced. Sean McEvoy back to GAA is an exciting talent to have. And with a lot of other new faces (that will take time to bed in) and not many lost we do look stronger than last year. Conor Brady is a loss though, but the poor fella always picked up injuries. Looking forward to the year ahead. What do you reckon for us?

Not sure if return of McKieran is good news. He was finished as an inter county player 2 years ago. Hes not going to be a starter. Only thing he is doing is blocking a space for a young player with potential.

I agree…. He made little impact fog the last couple of years he played county so I can't see how he will be any better now… Is he trying to be Cavans version of Michael Murphy I wonder… Are the new rules having an influence here too… When he was younger and playing at full forward they would never kick the ball into him and now they bring him back to possibly play the same position ( well like Murphy he's hardly expected to play any other position )…. We wish him well but it's a poor reflection on our young talent available when himself and Nevin O Donnell returning to the senior panel are seen as major positives for the new season….

What young player with potential do you think he would be blocking?

You would wonder if the new rules will actually change much in terms of style of play. I think the kick out one will actually have the biggest influence on the game. The mark will be almost impossible to execute. I can see lots of slow possession based build ups through the hands. And with 8-10 steps now permitted and 11v11 it will be very hard for a team to force a turnover.

As for Gearoid, I suppose there will be no tracking back for the 3 forwards up front, so this could suit him. Paul Conroy has just won player of the year at 35 so I don't see a problem with age. Let's hope we see more of this - https://youtu.be/BF6fFk5arvA?si=KO_tuceJzL-6-KNf
