Here's a quiz question for you, Tom. There are 12 teams left in the All Ireland. 11 out of the 12 have pedigree when it comes to big comps and have won the championship, albeit some been in the distant past. Only one has no title. Let me know your answer there. ( here's a clue, it's not Louth!)

You played by the rules, won that game, finished ahead of Mayo and now deservedly have prelimany quarter final to look forward to. You are right we haven't taken a Div. 1 scalp this year yet. We are in Croke Park in a quarter final and will likely have to take a big scalp to progress. Having said that, for a team in transition we are moving along nicely."
look forward to may not be the best description of what most cavan supporters are thinking

He's key, and he ain't getting any younger.
It's not transition - with himself amd McManus still there, it was now-or-never. Now, it's never."
If you think this Monaghan team is all about Beggan then you're seriously deluded. I was genuinely pleased when Cavan upset the odds against Mayo so show some respect for the abilities of this present Monaghan team. If in doubt then just watch the game against Down & see the quality on display........by both teams.

Niall Morgan dictates play for Tyrone. Dublin brought Cluxton out of exile and still playing at 42/43. Beggan about 10 years younger."
Well said !

Get sense & don't judge us by the wind ups of veteran gaa. He wins when you do that. Best ignored.

Just having a laugh at Ernie the Vet from the united parishes. Vast majority of Monaghan people are sound. We could do with you keeping the minority on your own forum.

He's on Twitter obsessing about Arva & Knockbride playing junior championship while salivating over trump, musk & his tesla.

What kind of nonsense are you talking about? There was never a transition from Beggan. He was gone for a period to try out another sport. He will be the Monaghan keeper for the next 10 years. Manzy has retired along with many of the other long time servants and are being replaced by an exciting bunch of young players, with many more ready to come through in the next couple of years. If you you want to look at a case of poor transitioning you should look at the mess ye made of 4 Under 21 and a Minor Ulster winning teams. Of course you can harp on about glory days, that nobody on these forums remembers, but how much enjoyment does that bring to the youth of Cavan. We all have to live in the present and being able to win today doesnt come from imagining that because of your history that ye are better than the counties who are trying make present day history. Maybe we will win and All Ireland in the next few years and maybe we wont, but one thing for sure is that Monaghan football is in a good place. 12 months ago we went down to Kilkarney and got hammered in the Championship. Now we are looking forward to a big game in Croke Park. Can Cavan turn it around in the same way or are ye just happy to live in the 1950s, and make attempts to disrepect your neighbours winning days with silly comments.

This is the Cavan forum and Monaghan posters came on here throwing slight first.

I responded and perhaps it's touched a nerve.

Getting through the group you've gotten through doesn't amount to turning anything around. It was literally the easiest possible group you could've gotten (worst provincial winners, worst provincial lovers, worst placed league team, and no away game).

As for ourselves, do I see us winning in Killarney? No, I don't. I don't think any team in the country would be favourites to beat Kerry in Killarney right now. And we're a bit off the likes of Kerry, Donegal, Tyrone etc. at present. Same as ye.

Ruari Curran done well against Tyrone but he will be playing Junior football after Cavan exit. Ryan O Neill and Jason McLaughlin the same. McLaughlin never played above Junior. There should be 1 or 2 Divisional teams in the Senior Championship. A few of the teams making up the numbers. All of the Kerry players get a taste of high level football.

Cavan's trip to Killarney on Sunday will only be the fifth championship fixture (6th game) between the teams in 70 years.

1955 the teams drew 2-10 Kerry 1-13 Cavan in the semi final, with Kerry winning 4-07 to 0-5 in the replay. Peter Donohoe scored all of Cavan's total in the replay.

They met again in 1964 when Kerry ran out 2-12 to 0-6 winners

Everyone remembers 1997 semi final , Cavan were in the game for 55 minutes but Kerry pulled away late on to win 1-17 to 1-10

And then a largely forgotten quarter final in 2013 when Kerry won 0-15 to 0-9 in Croke Park

It is still a fixture laden with lore and tradition. Sunday is the very epitome of nothing to lose for Cavan, and despite the bad results v Tyrone and Donegal, the way Eamon Fitzmaurice and Tomas O Se have dismissed the game in the media this week as a training session has been poor form. EF even went as far as to say he would have preferred a tougher test for Kerry to get them ready for Armagh. For that reason, strangely, I hope Cavan either win by a couple of points or lose by 20! The former would be better of course. Good luck lads.

Monaghan are way ahead of us lad no point beating around the bush.

There's no way they would have been beaten by 13 by Tyrone and 19 by Donegal.

Play a very exciting brand of football also. Which would make you go watch them even if they weren't going that well.

Agree with you 100%… Monaghan continually punch above their weight which is one thing we never seem to do on any sort of regular basis…

Monaghan put it up to them teams on a regular basis. They beat Tyrone up in Omagh in 23. Playing a long time in Division 1 gave them confidence to compete.
Cavan were blowing up about beating Tyrone in a mckenna cup game under Mattie McGleenan.

If ever there was a time to step up and put in a performance its Saturday. Cavan at the moment are a laughing stock around the country and all you hearing from media is how did they get there. I saw somewhere where Kerry 1/20 on to win. It will show where this management team are at. Do the have the backing of the team and their tactics. I'm not so sure. If these players a have any pride and care for the supporters, they will die on their feet on Saturday evening. However, I would not be surprised if its another drubbing.

I have an awful fear that if that Kerry attack hits any sort of form we will be riddled on Saturday.. Kerry will be smarting after their defeat to Meath and with our defence so porous that can only mean one thing… I hope to goodness I'm completely wrong…!!!

Good luck to Cavan, you deserve to get the chance to progress, whether it was your first or third game didn't matter! You have your chance to progress! You left everything on the field in Castlebar, do the same tomorrow and you will be winners! Be Brave! Go for it! Good luck!

A lot would need to go right for sure. Against Mayo we had defense, in it at midfield and we brough our shooting boots. Against Donegal we had defense and in it at midfield but only for the first half. Against Tyrone we were in it at midfield but no real defense and certainly forgot the shooting boots.

The games are an open type of game with the new rules with its very hard for defenses to be on top. We need to stay in it at midfield and shoot the lights out. We need to be a bit more patient with out opportunities we get. We tried to force the issue against Tyrone and had a lot of wides and balls dropping short. Paddy lynch is only getting fit and hopefully its for this one. Could be last game for McKiernan and would like to see him

Players will be under no illusion that this is do or die and they'll give it everything. I'll be there!!!!
