For the first time the GAA will charge U16s to enter its National League Games after prices for the 2025 competitions were confirmed.
In a statement the GAA explained: "This new arrangement has been introduced after consultation with our counties and to assist with event control and health and safety protocols for fixtures that attract bigger attendances.

Not so sure this is a right move tbh.
u12's free into all National League Games at least.

At a time when attendances are not what they were and to encourage kids to get involved in our games, this seems a bit ill advised.

Time will tell....

It's not the 1st time but might be 1st time it's a general rule.
Can't see the H&S issue at say Ros v Monaghan if 2,000 u16s walk in to a NFL game.
The Hyde is licensed for 23,000.
There woukd beat most 4,000 adults there.
Clare v Cork hurling in Ennis would be different.

It could be partly a health and safety thing for insurance. They could have went for £/€1 ticket price just to have a record of numbers. A while back a Tyrone woman was in papers yapping why she couldn't bring a newly born to the All Ireland final without ticket. If someone happened that child who's to blame.

I find this really disappointing. Our family of four attend all games. It's very likely my wife will be staying home with the two kids going forward.

I hear what you are saying, but surely if it was a H/S issue, then they would do it for all League games, and club games also for that matter.

Seems like a smoke screen to me.....

I always bring my kids, buy them a ticket for the half time draw, and give them a fiver for the shop. That'll stop, meaning the club hosting the fixture will be the ones to lose out from now on.

This will decimate crowds at league games. Commentators will no longer be able to wax lyrical about the crowds of boys and girls on the pitch in Parnell and elsewhere at half time with hurleys and footballs. They will be at home watching soccer or on their play stations and phones.

Will lose parents too of course. At a time when the telescoping of season has already reduced the interest and traction of the county championship this is another example that the accountants have taken over.

FAI have astutely done a good job in targeting younger supporters through freebies, They have also created an increasing local identification with clubs that is increasingly absent in counties.

Health and safety just an excuse to try and squeeze as much as they can out of the dwindling attendance figures…. This is only going to backfire on them big time….

It probably is due to H&S and the charge due to bots who could look to buy up the ticket supply if given for free.

She is. Same as any parent or guardian bringing children to events. Sounds like she was looking for a bit of attention. Did she expect her newborn's roars to inspire Tyrone on the day? Anyways, ye didn't her or her baby's support on the day Saynothing. Ye beat us handy. Fair play.

Would any of ye pay €2 extra, on top of admission, for an seat in the stand for a League match? Should help crowd control and ease the mill for seats in the stand when the weather us bad, which it usually is.

It's going to cost me at least 120 extra euro. Thankfully the Football will be free, although I'll only be able to go to 4 of our Football fixtures due to the inconsiderate fixture people. But that's a complaint for another thread.

Anyhow there's probably better ways of doing all this... a family ticket that allows an 2 adult bring 3 children like the likes of Leinster Rugby allow.

Genuine question. Do other sports charge for U16s? I'm pretty sure LOI It's not free. Don't know about Rugby.
