The thing literally blew away in the wind.

Does that not confirm it was a bit of a stupid idea and use of 3.5 mill.

Why would you spend the sane and prob more again on another.

It's located in the centre of Connacht. Where should it be located? Let me guess…down in Galway.

It's anything but far too early to be making any definitive statements about it. It's blatantly obvious the the home work wasn't done pre build, the geometry of the project and the out of use care and maintenance of the Dome was overlooked or ignored.

Minister Ring from guess where gave a load of Rural renewal or something grants.
The whole Bekan thing was developed with money from the rent of Croke Park which should have gone to the 5 County Boards.

Our club u8s/u10s/u12s/u14s/u16s are training on ours over the winter and it's ideal for that, but I don't think it is suitable for games."
Growing a grass combination indoors has been developed. I believe it is the type of light used to generate photosynthesis.

More a stupid idea not to deflate it with red weather warning. The West of Ireland was going to be hit the worst.

Replying To Square_B:  "The only comparible example would be the SSE Arena in Belfast... holds about 11k... it cost about 120mil back over 25 years ago and can only accommodate an ice hockey rink which I would estimate to be about a 1/3 the size of a GAA pitch. I think you know where I'm going with this... will never happen."
Yes expensive to build but at least start with one with multiple functions. Maybe get teams to book it instead of the money put in to preseason travel for training. Several teams could be using it at the same time as on field use is not needed all day. The big thing is several weather postponed games could be played over a week end. Always some initiatives required to make things happen. Every little village in Canada has an ice arena with multiple rinks that would have a similar foot print and seating for a few thousand. No professional money but sponsorship for advertising around the perimeter and user fees. You are right it probably won't happen as thinking outside the box is not great.

How so?

Because it blew away in the wind and cost millions.

No club will be using it now.

A lot of things blew away in the severity of that storm and will be rebuilt. Were they all stupid buildings with the benefit of hindsight?

In fairness the Astro and seating are still usable? So the whole 3.5 million was far from wasted.

The people who are glad that the done was blown down are showing themselves to be narrow minded, jealous and vindictive. It is only one part of an excellent Connacht COE. There isn't another one in the country and it gets used extensively

Could or should it have been deflated in the extreme weather.
