With the success of the Dome in Connacht, should the other provinces look to get funding for one also? Some awful conditions up until March for schools and college games.

Yes. But costs have rocketed since the Bekan Dome was built. It cost €3.1m Euros and it's estimated it would cost 3 times that amount to build one now.

Of course they should but I suspect that the cost would be prohibitive... Connacht GAA got in before building cost went bananas. Connacht built theirs for 3.1mil, a complete bargain it would seem.

Fair point . Yeah inflation on building materials has gone up a lot. At least Connacht were progressive.

Very sorry to hear that the Air Dome in Bekan (Mayo) which cost over 3.5 million to build was blown away by Storm Eowyn last night. While it was insured, Connacht Gaa might have difficulty getting insurance if the Dome is rebuilt. John Prenty has already come out and said it will be rebuilt. Surely it is up to all members of Connacht Gaa to decide where Connacht Gaa money is spent, not just up to the present secretary.
Too early to be making definitive statements until costs, risk assessments etc are carried by appropriate people.

I'll think you'll find John is playing the politics with this one... he's kinda has to say it will be rebuilt. I'd agree it's far too early to be making any definitive statements about it.

I watched the Harty QFs which were played on Astros in Fethard and Limerick. I dont think artificial pitches suit Football or Hurling for matches tbh. Our club u8s/u10s/u12s/u14s/u16s are training on ours over the winter and it's ideal for that, but I don't think it is suitable for games.

Was there not some way it could have been deflated/temporarily dismantled until after the storm passed?

Since it was built a lot of people admired how it could hold indoor games when weather was poor. There's even a few that dispute it's centrally located in Connacht! Some are only happy when they're complaining about something.

Was it not said somewhere that Mayo were training in it last night / that they thought it would withstand the storm?

But it was a vanity project. Bringing schools from South Galway to play matches is pure daft.

Maybe it was some ritual they were doing that some overpaid guru told them to try in the quest for Sam? But hopes of Sam and The Dome are Gone with the Wind. Frankly I do give a damn.

There should be a proper indoor stadium in each province holding 10,000. It would pay for itself. Allow games that fall foul of the weather go ahead. Concerts etc. Multiple uses. Those domes are a waste of money. Glorified tents with a limited life span.

I've been wondering about that. I was under the impression it was often left deflated when not in use. Was I wrong, and it was actually left up all the time, including last night?

"Opened in 2020, the dome has hosted FBD League games in the past and is a hive of activity with its ability to host games regardless of the weather."

Regardless of the weather? I hope they kept the receipt.

The only comparible example would be the SSE Arena in Belfast... holds about 11k... it cost about 120mil back over 25 years ago and can only accommodate an ice hockey rink which I would estimate to be about a 1/3 the size of a GAA pitch. I think you know where I'm going with this... will never happen.
