Best prospect we ever produced is putting alot of pressure on a young man just let him develop and see how he gets on and see where it takes him.

No offence intended but who knew playing a game against a county where hurling is the be all in their schools across the county would make better hurlers. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1293 - 02/04/2025 22:11:30 2600227 Link 0 |
"We were much better set up than we were last year against Kilkenny I think," Ah now We were well beaten in both games to be fair, last year we ended with a better team and could have had more goals. Molloy from Fethard cut KK open a few times, Rowley scored a great goal. We were well beaten but at least we had a scoring threat going forward. This year our attack dosent look strong. Our Full back line looks weak.Last year Eoin Whelan missed a lot of the year. This year who we have to stop Marty Murphy? Also what is our style of play?? Weather is a non issue. We playing at home, 4pts from play, 1 score from play came in injury time. Nearly 35 mins without score from play in second half. there was no style of play. I presume Dylan Purcell moved up to strengthen our forwards? It is not a good sign. Hopefully Cillian can get back? A win next day would really help but hard to see. Agree 100% good minors do not always make good seniors. Hopefully he makes the step up successfully. Time will tell.

Better prospect than McDonald even at same age?

I had a post making that very point not allowed by the admin last night? Wexford are losing to Kilkenny schools because their sole focus in schools is hurling. Not a surprise.

Mac was talked about like Nicky rackard at minor in fairness. I can think of about 5 others at minor over the last 20 years that were unbelievable and either never played senior or only a couple of league games. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3463 - 03/04/2025 10:51:10 2600291 Link 0 |
That's a worrying defeat given the margin. I hope I'm wrong but I feel like we have stalled or even regressed with our underage in the last few years.

Are chaps enjoying their hurling if they are they should be improving through practice . Easy to say killkenny focus on hurling only but in fairness hurling in st Peters comes before any other code . Are the lads being put under too much pressure with expectation . I ve heard several so called top coaches say when they get them they are not up to standard easy solution go back and start from scratch instead of blaming other coaches and clubs . Surely if they want to improve the standard the earlier they get them the better or is that not financially beneficial . Stop putting pressure on them let them enjoy it they will improve if enjoying and practicing. One goes hand in hand with the other . First up it wasn't Junior it was 2nd year. And the score is wrong, though it was bad. In fairness to those lads they were unbeaten all year up to that. They had 3 lads sent off. Heads went down. Happens with 14 year olds. As regards what Rory said that is largely down to Dept of Education admissions policy. And other schools getting better as schools. For example alot of top young players from Oulart, Ballyhogue and Oylegate, 3 of our top clubs as regards underage, are going to St Mary's instead of St Peters. Or Wexford CBS. That Peters team only has 2 starters off our u15 Development Squad on it. On a happier note Adamstown won their Leinster Senior D Final this morning. Kilmuckridge also won a Leinster, as did St Mary's and FCJ. It's not all doom and gloom. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15265 - 03/04/2025 14:34:13 2600361 Link 0 |
Can't think of 5 others who had what O Brien has, as in all round attributes. Tbh I'd include Mac in that, he never covered the pitch like O'Brien does. And I definitely would have seen them all play.

I think we are way better than we were overall. We reached the Michael Foley u16A cup final last year, and the Tony Forristal u14A Cup final, and won the Arrabawn u15A shield. We haven't achieved anything like that in many years. Our minors beat Corks and Kilkennys in Championship last year, and beat both well, the 1st time since 1968 we beat both in the same year. Thanks Viking when you lay it out like that we arent doing too bad. Any word on how preparations are going for the minors ? We should have a good team if they reached the final in 16 last year? Looking forward to seeing Sean O Brien in action again

This is neither here nor there re. St. Peter's or Kilkenny CBS, but just had a look at the Leinster GAA website for schools results, and there are some remarkable ones from recent weeks all right, especially in football - HURLING 8-18 to 7-19 7-15 to 4-16 7-16 to 3-12 FOOTBALL 8-11 to 5-13 7-11 to 5-13 9-11 to 7-8 5-14 to 5-11 9-11 to 3-2 10-8 to 5-5 8-8 to 5-5 7-11 to 5-9 Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2802 - 03/04/2025 15:19:46 2600375 Link 0 |
In fairness Viking there was no round robin games that time so could not compare like with like in the 70s 80s or 90s or early 2000 so not a great comparison to say first time since 68 and even though we bet both KK still won Leinster and got to the all ireland final so i know which i would prefer.
