Listened to the Wexford Hurling Podcast this morning!! I must say Richie Kehoe was refreshing on it,very positive and really gave a good insight into everything he he spoke about,he's got a fairly good insight of things that are going on at underage, that most of us on here wouldn't to privy too!! I have to say I was discusted with U20 result, but after listening to him regard laois team,I still feel we should be beating them, but in fact they are a good team!!!I'd have to agree about development teams giving more time than one day a week!! As regards the game on Saturday v Galway I'd have to agree with him on his analysis which was put out to the listener in a very simple way so as we could understand!! I think he's right that we definitely have to use our legs against a slow galway defence!!! Agree with having mac on the square for the out ball!!! Also he's very strong on our half forwards and midfield getting back when defending to sure up the space we have been giving teams!!! Also I think the most important point was to put pressure on the short puck out, think that's key the weekend!! I'd think he's right about the match ups also,I think Simon on cathal mannion,Shane reck on whealan!!I think this I a very winnable game,as he said we do tend to pull out a performance when our backs are to the wall and I think that's what will happen this weekend!!! I hope we win because that drive home will be a tough one if not!!! Up wexford theboys (Wexford) - Posts: 261 - 09/05/2025 09:45:45 2607752 Link 0 |
Keith has made a lot of last minute changes from what I can recall Shane Reck the last day against Dublin and Jippo against Galway last year

May call out Richie on the fact that twice he stated Laois won Minor with that team when in fact they were well beaten by Offaly in the final. On a side note Laois were also well beaten in that years All Ireland Quarter final by Clare who then lost to Offaly who then lost the final to Tipp. So it might have been a good Laois team by their standards but still not in the top 4 teams in Ireland. Going back to the U20 game last weekend we went 23 mins without scoring in the 2nd half from play. No forward/midfielder scored in that 2nd half from play. We had a strong wind at our backs and were at home. That is just unacceptable . No amount of sugar coating can gloss over that fact. Now the question must be asked is it the players themselves that are at fault or the management or both. Paull (Wexford) - Posts: 200 - 09/05/2025 11:07:31 2607776 Link 0 |
Odd. I'd have thought grealish would be earmarked to foul Rory o Connor for 70 minutes

As regards minor we haven't had a top 4 team in Ireland since the 80s ourselves tbh Paull! As regards your 2nd point re the u20s, lack of bravery, on the pitch or the line, is a feature of our intercounty teams at all levels alot of the time unfortunately. I went to school with him. A very sound fella, and in the 25 odd years I've known him I swear I've never seen him without a hurl.

I hope Keith and the lads start making the hard calls quickly from tomorrow on. It's too late when an inside forward for the opposition has scored a goal or two . We also need to stop conceding puck outs

No Jason Flynn either in the panel either, I'm surprised Garvey that played wing back in the league game hasn't featured at all for them really since I thought he was very good that evening , not sure what the story with Niland is.

There not better than us thats the point.we are as good as whats in Leinster but we are also as bad as whats in Leinster thats the problem no consistency.

What do you mean by lack of bravery? It's more like a lack of taking the right option or lack of execution skills. We had chances from play, but our forwards must not have been up to the task if they could not convert even 1 of those chances. Also, Richie was a selector on the Wexford minor management team in 2022 beaten by Laois. Why would he twice say on that podcast that Laois won the final that year . I doubt very much he forgot that result but if you can portray a narrative that the opposition is of a very high standard then of course it's much easier to accept a loss at home to that same opposition . They play Kilkenny at home in the Leinster U20 Semi Final and only then will we know if they are actually a good team or not. Paull (Wexford) - Posts: 200 - 09/05/2025 13:01:50 2607808 Link 1 |
Maybe he for got the final result but they only got beaten by 7 and Clare beat them after that who drew with tip in munster final and tipp beat offaly in all Ireland final so I wouldn't say laois are a poor team!!! Wexford aren't up to the tipps and offaly or Clares of that time!!! Just looking online there I'd say it's safe to say laois we're and still are a better team than us,I don't think he was trying to dress it up for us!!I'm like most here we should be competitive and we all think we should be beating laois but sometimes that's not possible when they are a little bit better than us as results show!!! For whatever reason I don't know but it is what it is now!!! I'm sure we will cross paths next year and hopefully we make progress and improve past the likes of them!!! I really can't wait for tomorrow hopefully the minors keep on rolling and we do the business in salthill!!!

I am 100% confident we will win the minor tomorrow. But the big one is the Senior of course. A win there and I think we will be in the Leinster Final.

Until Jones scored his point you could count the number of long range efforts by our players on the fingers of 1 hand. And we only attempted 2, I think, after that. That's what I mean by lack of bravery. Fear in players is different things, or a combination of those things. Fear of ####ing up personally mostly, but Fear of losing, Fear of the opposition, Fear of contact and getting hurt, Fear of the occasion even. When a player is playing with those fears, he's less likely to get the ball in his hand, is more likely to take too long making a decision, and more likely to take the wrong, usually what he considers safer, decision. That's what I mean by lack of bravery. Best cure is be so caught up in the actual game that you don't actually have time to think about all the above, you actually don't freeze. It's all mental. These lads are all minors, those Laois lads might have all those Fears in them the next time they go out, and also forget to hurl. Who knows? Our lads last year played completely differently against Cork and Clare for example. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15675 - 09/05/2025 15:20:37 2607846 Link 0 |
I'm not 100% confident we will win either game. But I'm 100% confident that we will win both if we are at it from the start of both games. And yes, I agree, if we win tomorrow we will win Leinster.

Can't see where that confidence is coming from in the minors. Laois bet Offaly by 31 points last week. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 922 - 09/05/2025 16:02:37 2607856 Link 0 |
