Ulster Hurling Championship

Slaughtneil totally deserved their victory. They were better, fitter, more aggressive and wanted it far, far more. Man for man they turned up and put their bodies on the line every time. Take Neil McManus out of Cushendall and Slaughtneil would have won by double figures. Cushendall limped along for most of the game and didn't have the heart or real belief at any time. I would also say looking at some of the Cushendall players, they just weren't fit enough. A couple of them are carrying big guts and the result showed that.

Ulsterman not every Gaa player has to be a finely toned athlete..your last comment sounds as if it came from bitterness..the better team did win and they are some club to be able to combine both codes at the very top level..I'd like to compliment ref on helping make it the game it was..also congratulate both teams for no play acting, some huge hits on both sides..slaughtneill now have to do it all over again and the final could be every bit as good, portaferry will be no pushover..

Cracking game. Thought theyd mentally tire after the goal at full time. Strange to see McManus hurl in defence at crucial times of the game and Sneils inability to handle him. Ulster hurling abu

All credit goes to slaughtneil, they were well up for the game tonight. The Ruairis were a shadow of the team that won Antrim but that could be down to slaughtneil being fitter and hungrier. Couple of the lads overweight were coming from long term injuries and definitely not fighting fit for this level. Neil was the best player for the Ogs by a country mile.
Number 2 for slaughtneil was their MOTM as he turned nearly everything. Will be a cracking final and whoever wins will definitely give the Munster champions a good game. There's not much between the big 3 in Antrim and Slaughtneil and Portaferry. Could play these games and could have a different winner every time. The days that the Antrim Champions would breeze Ulster are long gone. As a Dall man I knew tonight was going to be a tough one as I felt we weren't playing as well as last year. A few of our players were carrying injuries through the season and longer the game went on it showed. Still proud to be a Ruairi through and through. Well played Slaughtneil and good luck for the final and beyond.

That was an epic game of hurling! Slaughtneil showed real character to come out and dominate extra-time after it looked like they had blown it at the end of normal time. They fully deserved their win but full credit to both teams for an outstanding, hard-fought, sporting game. Also, it was so refreshing to see a match with no play-acting or whining at the ref - players just picked themselves up after every hard hit and got on with the game.

What an outstanding game and advert for Ulster hurling, with a major contribution from the referee. Cushendall could not match Slaughtneil's intensity, and were kept in the game by Mc Manus's brilliance. They couldn't kick on when they went ahead and their younger players appeared to be shell shocked, as Slaughtneil kept up the pace.

A fitting result and Slaughtneil will fear no one on that performance.

Ulsterman. A totally inappropriate comment in there which should be withdrawn.

No that's fair enough. I'll just say Slaughtneil looked far fitter and leaner than Cushendall and were more than deserving winners. Despite the scoreline the Derry men were far superior in every department.

Good call. Great game of hurling last night. I hope Slaughtneil and Ballygunner lock horns in the semi final.

Great match, the tension was amazing. Delighted for Ulster hurling to be given the chance to showcase on national tv.

A marvellous game… all go go and played at breakneck speed with a referee that let the game flow.. A game that truly showed up football as a dire spectacle …!!!

I don't know, I don't think it was a case of this. If you're to reflect on the game, take McManus out of the team the 'dall where quiet limited. Up until his first goal I thought sneil could hammer them!

Anything can happen in a 2 horse race. 5/1 sounds like an early Xmas present, or better still, cover the draw

I've a feeling Portaferry will be fitter than Cushendall looked this year. They will need to be too, because Slaughtneil will stay running up and down the pitch for the full 80 minutes if needs be.
The odds are just bizarre tbh, Portaferry were very close to Cushendall last year, much closer than Slaughtneil were. Slaughtneil have lost Chrissy McKaigue since.
One big thing Slaughtneil have going for them is a tough semi final already played, I think that stood to Cushendall last year. Ferry will be going in cold.
