Replying To omahant:  "Many want to see long kick passes and contested balls. Why not have it 'forced by rule'? Say, the defence MUST kick pass to beyond its own 65 from behind its 45 - a better 20-metre kick than the proposed one at kick out (which could go short then).

As for the scoring scale, retention of 3/1 could be:

- 'Over the bar' (OTB) from the arc, => 40m = 1 pt
- OTB from < 40m, ONLY after a kick to inside the 20 from outside the 45, a '45-20' (ball can bounce, so not necessarily an Advance Mark) = 1 pt
- OTB from < 40m, WITHOUT prior 45-20 = 0 pts (wide)
- GOAL from any distance, with or without a 45-20 = 3 pts (no change)."
Ahh wil ya stop ....

Eamon Fitzmaurice and Michael Murphy are in favour of provincial championships before the league. Provincial championships after the league currently just like a drop in standard and intensity."
Within the current structure I think the provincial championships could run alongside the league. The biggest issue I have is that at the end of the league a team doesn't know what competition they're preparing for.

With the split season as it is now - I'd suggest playing provincial finals on Easter Monday each year with the final league games on the May bank holiday - I'd expect bumper crowds at both.

If the provincials were finished before last 3 rounds of the leagues, those 3 rounds could decide seedings for the All Ireland and Tailteann. It could make them league games more competitive. Keep teams sharp coming right close to championship, all teams finishing at the same time. Currently we have teams that can drop their levels, already qualified for All Ireland and aim to peak for the All Ireland group games. No need for league finals giving some teams an extra week off. Ideally it would go to straight knockout then but gotta keep the players happy because 'it's not fair' for them to have only one championship game. Mere coincidence that having another league within the championship is creating extra games for TV and more anticipated revenue from attendances. I say anticipated because I think supporters vote with their feet and if they're gonna pick and choose games to go to they'd rather go to knockout games with more intensity.

What about when teams get a free one yard inside the arc...

You are allowed to take it further out and go for 2 points. Will this apply for all frees inside arc?

I don't think that's the case, I think you can only bring it back when the ref has moved the ball forward for dissent.

League-based AIC, with Prov KO results doubling as league ties?

Apart from dissent, I'm not sure what would be allowed. For logical consistency, an attacking team should have the option to bring it out and go for two. In any event, when taking a free inside, can it be kicked back so a teammate tries for two?

Let's not blow the enhancement rules off track with championship changes. At the end of the day it seems the good old Christy Ring double elimination format will make a comeback! Very incentive by the powers that be.
The two pointer has good potential as mentioned already. Rewarding the risky shot. Defenders have to push out. It could actually lead to more goal chances, despite the 3 point value remaining as is.
A lot of the changes are small enough. 1v1, goalkeeper passing, solo & go and the attacking mark are straightforward. The 3v3 isn't complicated either but the concern is around one official being able to track it. One official has to track offside in district leagues around the country.

Below, I offer my "twist" on the single-tier, 32-team "Pre-2018 SFC Qualifiers" to counter Provincial imbalance. This could be played concurrently with the Tailteann Cup, as lower-ranked teams drop out of Tier 1.
------

After initial Provincial Preliminary & QF Rds, the remainder of the AI SFC could be structured as follows:

✓ Prov SF 16 (2nd chance after loss in SF 16, F 8 or new 'Champs 4' round)
+ Rd 1 Qual 16 (3rd chance after loss in 'Rd 1' only, then KO starting in Rd 2)

✓ Prov F 8
+ Rd 2 Qual 16 (8 Prov SF & 8 Rd 1 "losers", open draw)

✓ Prov 'Champs 4' Playoff Rd
+ Rd 3 Qual 20 (4 Prov F losers + 16 Rds 1&2 winners)

✓ Rd 4 Qual 12 (2 Prov Champ losers + 10 Rd 3 winners)

✓ AI QFs (2 unbeaten Prov Champs + 6 Rd 4 winners)
✓ SFs
✓ F

Tailteann Cup KO 12 (lowest-ranked of 18 Qual Rds 2&3 losers) starting concurrently with AIC Qual Rd 4
------

Subject to non-repeat pairings, where possible:

Seeded Draw (Front Door):
All Prov Rds (Preliminary Rd, QFs, SFs & Champs Rd); and AI QFs & SFs.

Open Draw (Back Door):
All Qual Rds (1, 2, 3 & 4)
and Tailteann Cup.
------

So, after Provincial QFs (win, lose or bye), any of the 32 teams could advance to the AIC "Last 24" by winning 'either' of their next two games; to the "Last 14" by winning a Prov title or in Rd 3; and to the "Last 8" by winning in a 'new' Champs Playoff Rd (shortens wait time to AI QFs) or in Rd 4.

There's a Thread already on All Ireland formats.
This one is to discuss the proposed new rules.

It is indeed. 4 points for a goal is off the table because of the fear of Division 1 teams beating Division 4 teams in lopsided provincial mismatches. Jim's committee cannot solve all the problems.

Thanks for moving and sorry for going off topic so much.

As for the new rules - I guess its wait and see whats decided at this stage. Whatever is decided we should all give them a chance and hopefully see the dawning of a bright new age.

In the Inter-Pro SFs (I didn't see the Finals), I felt the buildup play was still very cagey and pedestrian. Instead of the minimum 20m kick at the kickout, I'd rather a requirement to kick from behind the defensive 45 to beyond the 65. I think it would lead to more contested balls around midfield - a modest, but possibly aesthetically pleasing, tweak.

Fair point.
The GAAs main focus at the moment should be trying to get football back to basics and away from the scourge of blanket defense and slow keep ball tactics.

When are the votes on implementing the new rules for the coming season taking place?

I've heard (not sure is thus official yet) that the 4 point goal is off the table, has it been clarified yet what specific rules are going to a vote?

All bar the 4 point goal I believe.

After looking at last night's game there is no need for any rule changes bar keeping 3 players up all the time… the rest are only window dressing and will only make the refs job harder and therefore ruin the game…. As stated several times there's nothing wrong with the game…it's the over paid coaches who have it destroyed…

Tomsmith here

Fully agree with you foreverblue
Overpaid coaches who travel long distances for expenses only and have to get results
Perhaps if Coaches could only be selected from ones own County and Club Coaches from the local Club area it would remove a lot of concern that some Coaches are asking / get more than ??.
I know it would be difficult to Police
