Replying To legendzxix:  "With all these medals, Team Ireland are really spoiling us! I don't want to turn on the TV for anything less than a medal!
"Six [medals
has been our best and we are definitely aiming to be higher than that, you have to create double the number of opportunities to medal.
So, if you want to get let's say eight medals, you need about 16 opportunities to medal across those sports to really see if it can happen for you. We're very confident that we have those opportunities." - OFI chief Sarah Keane.
After Wiffen today [all going to plan at time of writing!!] and Harrington on Tuesday, the opportunities for medals might dry up. The eight medal prospect will most likely rest on the shoulders of Adeleke. Ronnie Delany won Ireland's last gold medal in athletics in 1956! It will be something special for any athlete to win the next."]What a week it has been, seven medals in seven days.
That's 20% of the total (35) won in all our previous 22 games combined. (18 of those were in boxing and 2 in art)

Yep. Hopefully government try to build on this and build more multi sport facilities and improve access to more sports. Build more 50 metre pools. Build more tartan athletics tracks, help gymnastics clubs, help more rowing clubs etc etc

I really do love the fact that our Olympians compete as one island and all support each other 100%. The boxers were a bit unlucky and had some poor decisions going against them. Our rowers are brilliant while our track & field athletes are improving. Hopefully the golds in rowing, gymnastics and swimming will encourage many of our young people to get involved. Well done all.

It was maybe 2 boxers who had poor calls against them. Rest can't have too many complaints

Hopefully government can do more for lot more sports in funding in future so we see more swimming medals, more gymnastics etc
We need far more multi sport shared facilities in this country.
More indoor athletics tracks that also have facilities for other sports

Well done to Wiffen on his 2nd Olympic medal but I think he put undue pressure on himself in the lead up to the race… a lesson learned for him I think.. I think Kelly Harrington will deliver another gold .. There is massive pressure on Rashida in the 400m.. any medal here would be a great achievement

RTE have a terrible habit of cutting to an add break in the middle of an event…. most annoying

Yeah those in north get option to choose between ireland and great Britain depending on their sport which is exactly what you want
There wasn't too many boxers who had decisions against them. Overwhelming majority lost fairly. They simply didn't have a good tournament.

Hopefully the government back up these sports and other olympic sports and improve access to these so people all over the country can try a sport nearby if they so desire.
We need more 50m pools, indoor athletics tracks outdoor tracks. A velodrome. Etc etc

He didn't put undue pressure on himself. That's the way he is for every race. That's the same attitude he had for the 800. Same for the World Champs. That had nothing to do fun with the result.

'Overwhelming' majority. I hope you weren't overcome with scale of it. We lost 2 medal hopes to dodgey decisions. That's overwhelming in it's own context too.

Apart from being the best performing Irish Olympic Team of all time, the athletes ability, attitude, demeanor, professionalism and personalities win or lose, makes me very proud to be Irish. Take a bow Rhasidat Adeleke, Sharlene Mawdsley, Aoife O' Rourke, Paul O' Donovan, Fintan McCarty, Mona McSharry, Rhys McClenaghan, Philip Doyle, Daire Lynch, Daniel Wiffen, Kellie Harrington, Diana Moorehouse (just for some examples) and all members of the Irish Olympic team along with their coaches and managers.
Hopefully the Irish public with get a chance to welcome back the full Olympic team (Not just the medal winners) to Dublin to show our appreciation and wave the Tricolour for positive reasons.
Investment in sport by the Government pays off and hopefully it will be increased in the next budget.

Yes welcoming all athletes back will be very important
Investment in right areas is the important thing. Where would you like to see increases in Investment from government?

Agree totally . That's the GAA mentality of "say nothing" at work. Noah Lyles was mouthing for the past year and still won.

I am generally happy to let the Sports Council of Ireland and other experts decide that. I would like to see more money going to boxing, cycling and athletic clubs in particular.
Not forgetting our national sport (Gaa) either.

A questionable decision by Mawdsley and Becker to go in the 400m repechage. Obviously they have their individual goals but is an Olympic relay final a stronger possibility if they keep fresh for that?
