Exactly why there should be a deal between RTE and BBC to make all coverage from both broadcasters available. The vast majority of athletes from the North are part of Team Ireland. RTE give a lot of coverage to these athletes as they are part of Team Ireland whereas the BBC will focus on Team GB so they will often not be featured which is a major issue. RTE coverage of the Olympics is more beneficial to people from the North than the BBC coverage yet they are being denied access to RTE coverage.

As somebody else has suggested...educate yourself a bit about international broadcasting rights. In particular, you might be interested in learning about how the BBC aren't even the main rights holders for broadcasting the Olympics within the UK. It's not them who RTE would have to deal with. Anyway, I think there's enough said about this. Let's go back to discussion of the Games themselves. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2621 - 26/07/2024 13:10:57 2561734 Link 0 |
You are so naive. Ioc sell rights and discovery who own eurosport own rights in Europe and BBC and rte only sub license off them to cover some events. Rte and BBC can't make a deal like that unless discovery agree

Definite knock/slap on to gain possession for 3rd try , commentator Hugh Cahill is usually very sharp to pick up on those infringements. There might be different laws on restarts in 7s or we might be deceived by camera angles. Open to enlightenment on all this. Three tries each, Fiji converted two of their three conversions while our accuracy deserted us.

Yeah the should have picked it up in normal time but for some reason he said he couldn't check it I think they can only check tries etc but it cost Ireland the win definitely. Ireland were poor at conversions they are harder in 7s like drop kicks but Ireland missed more than their fair share during the tournament.

I have great time for Shane Lowry but did he really have to be front & centre holding the flag? I know he was probably nominated to do it, bit he gets his fair share of exposure as it is. Would've been better if one of our lesser heralded athletes, swimmers or boxers were given the honour. And yes I know Sarah Lavin had the other flag. I think what he had to wear was more concerning to be honest…. Who on earth designed that..? Was there a scrap of green actually in it…? Embarrassing

It won't go to waste if he's asked to umpire a match in Clara.

Shocking attitude from a supposed 'GAA' person. I suppose Armagh shouldn't be competing in tomorrow's All-Ireland. ballboy101 (Donegal) - Posts: 225 - 27/07/2024 16:42:38 2561960 Link 3 |
Ahh here, what's your problem with handlebar moustaches? It's as fine a moustache as you will see in these parts.

There's quite a bit of irony in your username when you're digging your heels in about this.

Lol. I'm simply mature and sensible enough to recognise that as things stand, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are different jurisdictions. That means different laws, processes, and all sorts of other things apply, including different broadcasting rights and agreements. It's not digging heels in. It's just recognising reality. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2621 - 29/07/2024 09:19:20 2562455 Link 0 |
The reality is that there's a good proportion of athletes from said jurisdiction representing Ireland. I get why rte can't cover it but one is entitled to be annoyed with them for not trying harder. Particularly if BBC aren't covering those specific events.

Yes, true that many Northern Irish athletes are representing Ireland. And it's worth recognising that these athletes come from both sides of "the divide" there. But your last line leads me to wonder why people aren't complaining about the BBC here, instead of complaining about RTE? - The BBC has the rights to broadcast in Northern Ireland whatever Olympics action it wants to show there. - BBC has the capability of showing something different on BBC Northern Ireland to whatever's shown on other regional variations. - BBC Northern Ireland could therefore show all action featuring Northern Irish competitors (no matter what team they're representing), and would thus be serving both sides of the community there. - BBC are choosing not to do so. So why are they escaping criticism here? Anyway, again, enough about broadcasting rights. I'd prefer to talk about the Games themselves. BBC like rte are only sub licensing from eurosport/discovery so can't cover all that they used to as well.
