The experimental rules can't be used at club level. The only way it could be possible is by having at least 3 neutral officials who know the rules. We already have a referee shortage in many counties, and although the average age of referees nationally is in the mid-40s, in rural Ireland it's much higher and in the mid-50s in many areas. Unlike the Church, we can't fly in holy fathers from Nigeria to fix that problem! SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 437 - 15/10/2024 09:44:29 2574988 Link 1 |
Any word on the squads for the games? StandHogan51 (Donegal) - Posts: 11 - 15/10/2024 10:08:00 2574996 Link 0 |
Searching everywhere but can't find anything yet other than someone said that social media in Carlow say they have 2 picks.

As someone else pointed out, there could and should have been a new rule to minimise all the hand passing. stranmillis29 (Antrim) - Posts: 788 - 15/10/2024 11:17:39 2575019 Link 0 |

Maybe controversial but I love the swarm tackle shows real workrate and teamwork on behalf of the tacklers you set a trap and close in. On the other side if you can get the quick handpass in before or through the swarm it's a fantastic overlap taken 2 or 3 players out of the play. systematic (Galway) - Posts: 119 - 15/10/2024 12:21:28 2575032 Link 0 |
People enjoy hard fought close encounters. Lads who tell you "it was worth the entrance price alone" to see X score 1- 23 in 30 point trouncing of some unfortunate victims are few and far between. The Dublin hurling semi finals were good example. Crokes were brilliant in their clinical demolition of Lucan but it was nowhere near as compelling or entertaining as Na Fianna and Vinnies which saw plenty of timber and was in doubt right to end of extra time. I don't know if these rule changes will work but JFC they need to do something because Gaelic football at the moment is nigh-on unwatchable. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 15/10/2024 13:36:22 2575056 Link 2 |
Didn't realise there'd be so many asterisks!

Yeah exactly some of the scores generated by getting the quick handpass away usually end up being the top scores of any game !

The final wasn't that bad. Too many people thinking if games aren't open expansive high scoring games from start to finish that it's awful football. Cagey enough first half but score for score and some good scores. I thought second half was very good and result was in doubt right to the finish. There were much worse games this year. A lot of hype for our game v Dublin in the Hyde. First half was even cagier than Galway v Armagh. Long periods of defence sitting in and either attack recycling ball not going hard enough to get scores, silence from the crowd and the odd witty remark! If it's end to end games people want to see watch the NBA but don't be too surprised by the lack of skills in comparison to Gaelic Football.

No, there were worse games than the final, and that's the scary part. As for end-to-end games, that would sound pretty amazing to be honest. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 15/10/2024 19:15:53 2575137 Link 0 |
Dublin Mayo draw was good game. There was no one bored or leaving early that i saw!

Look Gaelic football was absolutely ruined and you get attacked for expressing that opinion. I grew up in a Parish that only played football. My dad by any standards was an accomplished player. It is now some sort of hybrid game. Not soccer, rugby, basketball, Aussie or American but a mishmash. It has lost the uniqueness it had. While accepting that all sports evolve this evolution was down the wrong road in my opinion and I am not trying to deny anyone theirs. Many of the outstanding skills gone with play going backwards more than forward. I believe it could be corrected unfortunately by requiring more change that often can be pragmatic as what occurred. Kick outs must go a past 40 metres. Once play crosses the half way line it cannot go backwards except it has gone inside the 20 line and still cannot go back over the half way line. Stupid mark that is part of another sport scrapped. All frees and dead balls off the ground. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2866 - 15/10/2024 22:10:17 2575168 Link 0 |
