Think this year could be the one where Kilanerin come to the fore again.

Outside of that you're looking at the Shels and Castletown as main challengers imho although will be interesting to see how Castletown fair without Brosnan. Gusserane never too far away either and by all accounts The Anne's are flying , good numbers at training and good start to the hurling.

I believe Goreys trainer walked away due to a lack of football which wouldnt bode well coming up from Intermediate and with the soccer dragging on Sars struggled for numbers for training I believe!

Castletown and the Anne's the game of the weekend.

Will Raparees awful start to the hurling championship have any affect on the starlights I wonder?

I was wondering are some of the lads concentrating harder on football myself. Was talking to a friend from Cloughbawn yesterday he said Rapps looked all over the place. Even basic stuff just wasn't right with them. At the same time he didn't think they looked unfit.

I have heard of a few clubs who have done less hurling than they normally would have and have and have adjusted their fitness schedule to peak much later due to the structure of the hurling championships.

I know of one club at least who have definitely put more into football hoping to secure early wins which are more important than early wins in hurling but to be fair their football team is higher up the grades but before that wasn't the case.

I know our club is minding players this weekend to get them back for the hurling in two weeks time which is disappointing. I see an email from the Pro stating that 10 teams haven't bothered sending in a team for the programme. There can be a real lack of interest once hurling is off for two weeks

Hard to know where any team is at. Will have a go at the predictions sure didn't go well in the last round of hurling so:

Gusserane by 7
Shels by 8
Sarsfields by 1
Kilanerin by 3
Crossabeg by 3
Castletown by 4

Kilanerin were short a few regulars alright, Cian Hughes and Conor Kinsella to name two. Crossabeg threw away a 3 point lead, wasn't at any game so can't comment.

Perhaps with all the talk of only three teams in it, the only team to win a title outside the top two in the last five years may have been underestimated.

Underestimated? They won by a point, with a goal from the last kick of the game against one of the weakest teams in the competition. They have zero chance of winning the championship.

I didn't get to many games over the weekend, unfortunately. Any teams going well or not looking good at all?

Sounds like a poor enough opening weekend. Loads of teams missing players through injury, holidays and not playing football which is disappointing. Heard Noel Holohan on SER this morning saying as much.

Well it did provide a talking point and that was Kilanerins defeat. Nowbi have seen that they've really missing players but still I think as you said a lot of clubs had players missing. Would anyone be surprised with the quality on offer. First game out and I would say most teams have focused on Hurling. Hopefully this weekend things will be better.

Just looking at the local paper lazy journalism at its best, one man scores 1,9 makes the headlines, , in a different game a man scores 1,7 hardly a mention it, was all about a chap returning from oz
