All Ireland Football Final 2024 - Galway V Armagh

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Congratulations to Armagh. After all the heartbreak of their near misses in penalty shootouts, I hope they enjoy the next couple of weeks. As a neutral watching the game; I can understand why Jarlath Burns has formed a committee to look at rule changes. Tactics have done the game no favours as a speculate. I hope the committee can devise some changes to re introduce kicking of the ball and space for forwards to express themselves.

Yes it ended up being exciting, thankfully. All the good stuff came from Armagh I would say.

Replying To jimbodub:  "Listen Galway deserved it on the day against Dublin and thet went onto beat a good Donegal side

So they deserved to be where they were, but all credit to Armagh, they didn't give some of Galwayd big game forwards a sniff..

It's been a long while since I've seen a team NOT have a single goal chance.. not one shot, not one sniff of a goal.. zippo.

It was a remarkable feat by the Armagh defense and a crazy stat, Galway didn't get even close to creating a dangerous goal opportunity

Armagh completely starved them and then they in turn kicked some absolute top drawer long range efforts"
'Listen' I'm not saying they didnt deserve to be there but the narrative from the media and Galway fans over the last month or so that they are some awesome team and huge favourites for the All Ireland once Kerry were knocked out is ridiculous. No one thought of Galway that way 6 weeks ago. A game between them and Armagh was always going to be 50:50.

Such nonsense. Finnerty had scored a point and had to go off injured after 10 minutes. Grow up

As soon as he took the belt he didn't want to know. And that's two winnable AIs that comer has done SFA and Walsh bottled it today. The usual Galway shite unlucky losers, always next year that's bollox win it when you've the chance. There is no second chance.

Kerry, Derry, Donegal and Dubs all in the hunt next year.

Armagh scores all from play, and some exceptional long distance scores"
Has any team ever before won an All-Ireland, hurling or football, without any score from frees? Maybe it happened in the early years of the GAA when frees were hard to win.

So they also beat Donegal and Mayo and Dublin. They were well up there with top teams this year.Didnt happen today but that can happen any given day to any team.

Yet another poster pretending to be from Galway at least make a bit of an effort and don't make it so obvious.

100% correct. Galway owned the ball in H2. Can talk about poor finishing all day but the turning point in the game was a very fortunate goal where Campbell was clearly going for a point.

As a neutral, hugely disappointing Final, low in skill (unless you tune in to see good defending, I don't ).

The contrast with the hurling final is stark.

Good luck to Armagh and congrats, if my county had won a bad final I would not care less.

I don't agree with you that the Galway fans thought any of the above about themselves.

Felt they were very gracious winners after beating Dublin, not sure what you got an ear full of though after the Donegal loss, still sting a bit?

Opposite experience for me

But yep, they definitely weren't good enough today but they had a great year, won their province and beat Dublin and Donegal on the bounce in CP, I guess their fans had every right to be proud of their side given the results they enjoyed.

But listen, again, I had nothing but positives to say about their supporters after their win against Dublin

They'll be hurting today

Replay in 2019, Dublin scored 1-17 out of 1-18 from play. 0-1 coming from a '45.

Slightly different in that Armagh missed at least 2 scrorable frees today, whereas Dublin weren't awarded a single scrorable free in thr 2019 game.

Impressive from Armagh.

It's a very rare occurrence no doubt..

Fair play to Armagh, very accurate from open play, I'd say their score % on chances is impressive reading

They performed at the highest stage when they needed to the most

"That's how winning is done"

As a neutral I reckon Galway play a risky game in that they almost never kick the ball long and therefore create no goal chances. In their last 5 games this season v Armagh twice, Monaghan, Dublin and Donegal, they scored 1 goal which was an attempted point which dropped short. Playing like that means you have to nail your opportunities for points and today it just didn't happen in front of goal. Comer looks unfit and probably a poor decision to play him. Armagh do kick long on occasion. A long ball in first half for Turbitt just skidded away but would have been a great goal chance if he got it. Fine margins bit as I say hard to win an All Ireland without a goal threat

Ollie Turner on Galway bay saying in the aftermath He couldn't see any way Galway would lose before the game….

Well they didn't perform and did lose. Forwards were not good enough despite creating enough chances to win the game. That will sting and we know only too well what it feels like.

Condolences to Galway and well done to Armagh. I felt whoever scored a goal would win. Not a great final quality wise but that won't bother the Armagh men.

Well done Armagh and hard luck Galway. I feel Galway lost that as much as Armagh won it. Two heartstopping misses at either end in final 30secs but either team could have won it. I am sure Armagh cooldnt care less how they won so enjoy it. Nice to see people in Orange smiling. It will take until midnight for the Swords road to clear.
