Under Mr Joyce- Galway's sideways passing style is a difficult watch. They never use the full forward line. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2565 - 28/07/2024 21:03:53 2562345 Link 0 |
I thought it was a terrible game. Close and exciting but quality was shocking. The sooner these boys bring in new rule changes the better. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1958 - 28/07/2024 21:08:48 2562346 Link 3 |
Galway supporter? I hope you weren't in Croker, a person like you didn't deserve a ticket!!!!

I got no ear full after the Donegal loss, couldn't fault them in that regard. Have seen a lot of cockiness among the fans and media bias towards Galway over the past coupls of weeks though. I could not unserstand it at all, Galway and Armagh have been nip and tuck over the last few years. I can't understand anyone who didnt see this game as 50:50 and for some reason thought Galway were strong favourires. Were did that come from other than the media?? To be fair, Armagh had a go. They were quick in offence and tried a few things. It's hard to believe a Galway team could be so pedestrian. It played into Armaghs hands. It was a tough game to watch. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1466 - 28/07/2024 21:22:50 2562354 Link 0 |
They had 15 players camped in their own half.

Yes Armagh were incensive when they had the chance. Galway were scared to carry the ball into contact. Too many tunronovers and a helter skelter game would have suited the more natural Armagh footballers and resulted in a one sided game. Galway gave them there best chance of winning by playing a structured game aimed at getting there one or two superstars on the ball or frees, while not exposing there lack of ability in other areas.

Congratulations to Geezer and Armagh, they finally got the holy grail of the silverware after a lot of heart breaking defeats down the years. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3030 - 28/07/2024 21:53:45 2562366 Link 0 |
It all looked like an anti climax to me given that there are no pitch invasions now. I was watching the 2002 final a few days ago and the scenes then don't compare to today. I know it means the players can stay on the pitch longer. I wonder could they ever make a compromise by allowing one section of the stadium onto the pitch. I think Armagh were faster moving the ball forward but when out of possession they had 15 players behind the ball…. the first half was a clear example why people are turning their backs on county football… it was terrible stuff.. Galway seemed to have no idea how to break down a massed defence and relied heavily on kicking points from far out which is a dodgy strategy and ultimately let them down… in their last play they should have orchestrated a free instead of trying a shot that was blocked down… A deserved win for Armagh in a game that did nothing to improve people's perception of Gaelic football…..

It's all an anti climax after last weeks epic. I play both codes but football is really in dire need of changes. Thankfully unlike the hurling , that game today wasn't shown on BBC2 in the UK. Can anyone really say they'd be proud to show today's offering to someone who hadn't seen the sport before ?

I'm so deflated after that. The manner in which we lost makes it a lot harder. Plenty just did not play well. galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 28/07/2024 23:37:17 2562405 Link 2 |
But kicking the ball accurately is an essential part of the game,, so if we didn't do that it's down to us not executing the basic skills properly, and nothing to do with armagh being lucky. That's like a boxer saying he was unlucky to lose a fight because his punches missed his opponent. Also, looking at Facebook etc our fans seem to be coming down very hard on the team and management. Maybe give them some time to absorb what's happened before sticking the boot in. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 28/07/2024 23:54:26 2562407 Link 1 |
Unionists and Loyalists are going nuts at Armagh's win. Apparently a PSNI car had an Armagh flag on it and cue the usual outrage and indignation. You couldn't make it up. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9785 - 29/07/2024 01:18:11 2562416 Link 0 |
Joyce has to go. Relied on lads with past records. Woeful stuff today. Armagh deserved to win. On a sour not Jarlath Burns needs to realise that he ie the president of the full GAA not just Armagh. His speech was disrespectful to Galway. Joe McDonagh our last Galway GAA president would never say that. I presume he will apologise to Galway over his emotions getting the better of him and act properly going forward LottoPlus (Kilkenny) - Posts: 85 - 29/07/2024 03:51:16 2562421 Link 1 |

Very little comment on how dire the actual game was ,on a perfect day ,the biggest soposed game ended been of the that poor quality...Spillane should be delighted it's hidden away in July Timmy86 (Sligo) - Posts: 304 - 29/07/2024 07:46:09 2562427 Link 1 |
How did they outscore Galway if they were 'camped' in their own half? Every serious team retreats when out of possession now, it's hardly unique. What you didn't mention is that they attack with pace and precision as well. Hence why they can beat teams like Galway and Kerry while keeping their key players quiet.
