I'm not sure but is this the first ever AI Final between Galway v Armagh jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20689 - 14/07/2024 21:25:46 2559119 Link 1 |
Galway aiming to get to double figures in AI Senior Football wins Jimbo with Armagh looking for their 2nd. Both last won in the 00's I think Galway are a better team but after yesterday I think Armagh will win it. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3981 - 14/07/2024 21:34:39 2559121 Link 0 |
A very fascinating final, what is the most recent AI final of two teams that you would have gotten such serious odds from the bookies of making a final? My guess is Mayo Tyrone 2021 where both teams upset odds to beat firm favourites, after that Cork v Down in 2010, I struggle to think of a recent final that did not have one of Dublin, Mayo or Kerry (open to correction) so looking forward to it. gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 566 - 14/07/2024 22:07:36 2559131 Link 1 |

Hopefully the jersey clash will be sorted and someone changes colours for the final Kew (Galway) - Posts: 100 - 14/07/2024 22:33:05 2559144 Link 1 |
What Jersey clash? Galway wear Maroon and White, Armagh wear Orange and White.

Dont think there is any bad blood between the 2 counties, although they amount of games over the last few years does build up a bit of rivalry. 3 very close games 2022-2024. Galway won one on penalties, Armagh won one by a point and 1 draw ( which felt like an Armagh win) . All three games had a common factor in that Galway were in comfortable enough position at stages and failed to close the deal. Armagh are so resilient, as they proved again on Saturday, and clawed their way back into all 3 games. This one is going to be a tough call. A great opportunity for both counties. If both counties replicate this weekends performance I think Armagh will have the edge. Galway will need to up the performance another notch and in addition to the workmanlike performance of yesterday we will need our stars to shine a little brighter.

In terms of raw passion, I think Armagh will bring the likes of what we have never seen before, "Not Going Home Without It", in addition to their undoubted skill and wide range of top notch score getters. Looking for hope as a Galway supporter I am clinging to 2 hopes. 1. Some of the long range scores Armagh notched up V Kerry were remarkable and maybe that wont happen 2 days in a row. 2. Galway have got to the final without their FF line fully clicking on the same day, If all 3 are 100% and get into the groove for the final I think we will do it. giveitlong (Galway) - Posts: 1258 - 15/07/2024 10:02:29 2559213 Link 0 |
Galway beat Meath in the 2001 final, if that could be called 'recent'.

Very similar for goalkeepers trying to pick a man on the kick outs. Lots of miss passes when these two play on a sunny day.

Should be a great final. Two well supported counties. Both teams have a real chance of lifting Sam. Looking forward to this one SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2501 - 15/07/2024 11:40:12 2559253 Link 0 |
Hard one to call.Their last two championship meetings ended in draws. No reason why this game wont go to extra time. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3844 - 15/07/2024 14:20:31 2559293 Link 0 |
So you want Galway to play in the white jersey to help the Armagh keeper. Remember Armagh can't change to their Black strip as there would be a major clash if Galway are in Maroon. Galway had to change two years running for games versus Sligo due to a clash between the Maroon and Black jerseys.

Maybe both teams will play in alternative strips, like the 2010 final. Wouldn't be a problem for me anyways. Remember the 06 final? I asked one fella how you'd distinguish between the two, he replied, the ones with the ball are the kerry lads. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 15/07/2024 15:57:12 2559328 Link 3 |
On paper Galway deserve to win it because they won their province and knocked out the All Ireland champions. It is strange that Armagh could win it yet haven't won Ulster in 16 years. Some of their young fans wouldn't remember them winning Ulster yet here they are in an All Ireland final. PattyONeill (Derry) - Posts: 246 - 15/07/2024 16:29:14 2559340 Link 0 |
If both change I wouldn't mind. if they were happy to do it. I just remember these two playing and lots of misplaced passes going to the wrong team. Good point about the keeper. I don't know if he is good at long distance but if so it would probably benefit him.

Feels incredible to be in the all Ireland final. Think the 2 teams deserve to be there given beating Dublin and Kerry respectively. 37E-De-Gee (Armagh) - Posts: 3 - 15/07/2024 17:29:08 2559361 Link 1 |
It will be a tough game no doubt about it but I'm expecting Galway to win. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2475 - 15/07/2024 17:48:47 2559364 Link 0 |
Armagh will wear orange and the goalkeeper will wear blue, there shouldn't be a clash
