Spillane is totally against Harte going to Offaly, calling it bonkers! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 29/08/2024 04:16:09 2567462 Link 0 |
I won't speak for Leitrim, but our current manager is from within the county. He's a recently retired player, and was an all star winner. His predecessor was from within the county too. Won an Ulster Championship as both manager and player. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 29/08/2024 04:40:56 2567464 Link 0 |

Cavan and Leitrim have the same chance of signing up a home grown manager that will bring them on the same distance as an outside manager. Philly Ryan leads by example and I have no idea who he is, I just happened to read his statement to his county board, it reads, - - - My philosophy has always been that football is all about the players," he said in a county board statement. "Players will judge me on how much I care as well as how much I know. The team is the star so every individual player and management member will have to leave their ego at the door. I subscribe to the old saying - it's amazing what can be achieved when nobody cares who gets the credit." The definition of my kind of manager is what Philly Ryan in his own words represents, he ticks all the boxes, I wish him well with maximum success. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3050 - 29/08/2024 13:12:30 2567536 Link 0 |
He hasn't been proven wrong yet as regards Micky Harte and Dublin having to pick a goalkeeper well over 40 really is bonkers in this day and age… His view would be more respected than that of someone like you I suspect…!

Most GAA people I know think Spillane only comes out with half the stuff he comes out with to keep earning the money he gets for coming out with it. As regards his views on Harte as a manager how many AIs did Spillane win as a manager? And as regards agendas what county did Tyrone beat en route to all of Hartes AI wins? As regards puke football how many other counties only scored 6 points in an AISF in the modern era, like Kerry did against Tyrone in 2003? In 2008 Kerry scored less against Tyrone in the AIF than Wexford scored against Tyrone in the AISF. There are plenty of reasons why Spillane doesn't like Harte. Come back to the island anytime, you stick up for Mickey and Tyrone more than some Tyrone people do . Fair play.

If Fianna make the county final I'll come up with the kids to see it.

We all know that ex Undertone, Kieran Sharkey, recorded 'A Good Heart' in 1985. The reference used was if Mickey Harte could do the deed with Offaly. A humorous play on words, lost on a pedant insisting on being 100 per cent correct.

I don't think Spillane ever questioned Micky Harte's ability as a manager especially with his great record with Tyrone… What he did question (rightly) was his taking the Derry job which ended disastrously for him and now his involvement with Offaly as a joint manager… Spillane made the right call regarding his Derry spell and he has to be proven wrong on the Offaly stint yet…. You seem to have a very anti agenda against Spillane… maybe he won too much..? I can take him either way…!

More chance of being regulated. Finished 2nd from bottom and they play Clonoe in a playoff.

He was a great player to watch. But some of his views on hurling and football are painful to read. And his complete disregard for club hurling and football is annoying.

He's still good at his job. Like him or not everyone ere still reading about what he has to say. then coming on ere to give out about him. He writes stories for the paper that get people talking / giving out and getting well paid for it. He's no fool.

I agree Derry was a risky choice, as they were always going to turn on him after the first couple of bad results. I like Pat, a gent at heart, and what a competitor. As a fan, broke my heart in 1986; Pat was the main man behind Kerry's last-quarter comeback vs Tyrone in 1986. You don't want to get too riled up by him though : ) Same as Brolly. Decent men both, and great characters. Fair play to Mickey too, he's still better at football management than most people, and will have a lot to offer Offaly. points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet (Tyrone) - Posts: 275 - 06/09/2024 22:35:51 2568787 Link 0 |
