So sad to hear of John's passing. John drove dreams to reality. A gentleman, a gifted leader and a legend to so many of us in Galway and in Mayo and Leitrim too. We'll never forget you, John. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 971 - 07/07/2024 14:57:03 2557396 Link 0 |

Eight Connacht titles with three different Counties. Brought Mayo to our first final in 38 years in 1989. Leitrim 1994 and Galway 1998 and 2001. One of the greats. But above all else a gentleman. RIP Johno yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11401 - 07/07/2024 15:44:53 2557407 Link 0 |

Such sad news this morning. An amazing football brain but above everything he achieved, he was one of life's gentlemen, real down to earth man. Had the pleasure of having him teach me for 5 years in school during his time as Galway manager. He always made time during class for a chat about the football, imagine how that made a young football mad young lad feel..listening to an All Ireland winning manager talk to you about the game! Great memories of field trips to Banada River over the years too! Even after we had left school and would meet him on the street or wherever, he always stopped for a minute to say hello. Condolences to his wife and family. D.Hyde (Roscommon) - Posts: 217 - 07/07/2024 17:13:18 2557430 Link 2 |

John did it all as a manager and his achievements (college, club, under 21 and senior) are there for all to see. While we in Roscommon sometimes came out on the wrong side of a defeat, he always gained our respect. Condolences to his immediate family but also to the many GAA players who he managed very successful over many years. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 629 - 07/07/2024 18:46:45 2557481 Link 1 |
Will always be a legend in Leitrim , won connacht in 94 could have won in 93 and 95 also and we're a consistent division 2 team beating many a big gun in them years. Doubtful we'll ever see days like that again. Went on to win 2 all irelands with a Galway team that were in the doldrums for years before. May John Rest In Peace.
